Abstract: This invention reduces or prevents a phenomenon where a screen close to a light source becomes yellowed. A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal display panel and a backlight. The backlight includes a light guide plate 10 and white LEDs 21 arrayed in a first direction on a plane of incidence 11 of the light guide plate 10. The white LEDs 21 each includes, in the first direction on a light-emitting surface, a central area occupied by a blue spectrum more densely than at adjacent sides of the central area. Incident plane protrusions 111, each extending in a thickness direction of the light guide plate 10, are formed on a section corresponding to the area having the dense blue spectrum of each LED 21, at the plane of incidence 11 of the light guide plate 10.

Abstract: To provide a thin liquid crystal display device featuring excellent color reproducibility. The liquid crystal display panel includes: a liquid crystal display panel outputting different colors on a per-pixel basis; and a backlight. The backlight includes: a light source; a light guide; a reflective sheet on a back side of the light guide; and a group of optical sheets including a wavelength converter and disposed between the liquid crystal display panel and the light guide. The wavelength converter has a structure where quantum dots are dispersed in a transparent medium. The wavelength converter is bonded to another optical medium by means of a diffusing adhesive. Nanoparticles for developing Rayleigh scattering are dispersed in the wavelength converter.

Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes: a light guide plate including a front surface, a back surface and an edge surface, the light guide plate being arranged such that the edge surface faces a light source, the light guide plate internally reflecting light incident from the edge surface and causing surface emission from the front surface; a liquid crystal display panel; and a reflective sheet arranged so as to face the back surface of the light guide plate. The back surface includes a first portion and a second portion. A surface of the second portion is located at a position recessed relatively from a surface of the first portion. The surface of the first portion is a rough surface. The surface of the second portion is a smooth surface. The reflective sheet is in contact with the first portion but avoids contact with the second portion.

Abstract: A display device includes a prism sheet between a display cell and a light guiding plate. The prism sheet includes a plurality of prisms having a constant apex angle continuously arranged in a second direction on a surface thereof opposed to a light-exiting surface of the light guiding plate. Each of ridge lines of the prisms extends in a first direction.
