Abstract: A liquid crystal display device having an alignment layer stopper which is formed external to a display area to suppress the generation of an electric field between signal lines and the alignment layer stopper, wherein the alignment layer stopper includes a second conductive layer SP formed above the first substrate when the alignment layer stopper is formed by coating and a first conductive layer SH formed below the second conductive layer SP through an insulating film and arranged in such a manner that its marginal parts in the longitudinal direction of the second conductive layer SP are exposed when viewed from the plane direction from the second conductive layer SP, and the first conductive layer SH is formed in a thin film layer between signal lines arranged in the side parts of the display area and the second conductive layer SP.

Abstract: In an FFS liquid crystal display device, viewing angle characteristics are further improved. In an FFS liquid crystal display device, the alignment axis of a first alignment film of a first substrate and the alignment axis of a second alignment film of a second substrate are directed in the same direction. At least two of an upper polarizer, a lower polarizer, or a retardation plate 160 satisfy conditions below. (1) The absorption axis of the upper polarizer forms an angle of one to 45 degrees inclusive with the alignment axis. (2) The absorption axis of the lower polarizer forms an angle of 91 to 135 degrees inclusive or forms an angle of 45 to 89 degrees inclusive with the alignment axis. (3) The extension axis of the retardation plate 160 forms an angle of one to 45 degrees inclusive with the alignment axis.

Abstract: A display device includes a prism sheet between a display cell and a light guiding plate. The prism sheet includes a plurality of prisms having a constant apex angle continuously arranged in a second direction on a surface thereof opposed to a light-exiting surface of the light guiding plate. Each of ridge lines of the prisms extends in a first direction. Each prism has a first inclined face on a side on which light from the light guiding plate is incident and a second inclined face on a side reflecting the incident light. Abstract: To provide a thin liquid crystal display device featuring excellent color reproducibility. The liquid crystal display panel includes: a liquid crystal display panel outputting different colors on a per-pixel basis; and a backlight. The backlight includes: a light source; a light guide; a reflective sheet on a back side of the light guide; and a group of optical sheets including a wavelength converter and disposed between the liquid crystal display panel and the light guide. The wavelength converter has a structure where quantum dots are dispersed in a transparent medium. The wavelength converter is bonded to another optical medium by means of a diffusing adhesive. Nanoparticles for developing Rayleigh scattering are dispersed in the wavelength converter.
