摘要: A self-sanitizing surface structure configured to selectively refract light, a method of fabricating a self-sanitizing surface configured to selectively refract light, and a method of decontaminating a surface using selectively refracted light. A waveguide including a support layer below a propagating layer is positioned over a substrate as a self-sanitizing layer. In the absence of a contaminant or residue on the waveguide, UV light injected into the propagating layer is constrained within the propagating layer due to total internal reflection. When a residue is present on the self-sanitizing surface structure, light may be selectively refracted at or near the interface with the residue along the side of the waveguide to destroy the residue. The self-sanitizing surface structure may be configured to refract a suitable amount of UV light in response to a particular type of residue or application.

摘要: An optical device includes a stack that includes a first curved optical element stacked with a second curved optical element. The second curved optical element propagates light by total internal reflection. The stack also includes an incoupling diffractive grating that incouples the light into the second optical element and an outcoupling diffractive grating optically coupled to the incoupling diffractive grating through the second curved optical element. The outcoupling diffractive grating directs the light. The first curved optical element has a first refractive index, the second curved optical element has a second refractive index, and the first refractive index is different from the second refractive index by approximately 0.15 to 1.2.

摘要: An optical coupler is described herein. The optical coupler includes at least one optical coupler unit. The at least one optical coupler includes an optical coupler entrance face and an optical coupler exit face. The optical coupler entrance face is configured to face, and receive light emitted by, at least one LED during operation. The optical coupler exit face is shaped as a Fresnel lens with a focal point at or behind a light emitting area of the at least one LED and is configured to face a lightguide entrance face of a slab lightguide. The optical coupler exit face has dimensions that match at least a part of the lightguide entrance face. The optical coupler entrance and exit faces are configured to refract light emitted by the at least one LED during operation.

The multilayer body includes, in sequence, a carrier layer of a black or gray translucent thermoplastic composition, a stone layer with an average thickness of 2 mm of less, and a transparent thermoplastic layer with an average thickness of 1 mm to 6 mm. The LED light source is disposed facing at least one lateral edge of the transparent thermoplastic layer, such that light from the LED light source is guided within the transparent thermoplastic layer.

摘要: In one embodiment, a film-based lightguide comprises a plurality interior light directing edges in a tapered light mixing region with curved sections which redirect light within the tapered light mixing region of the film. The interior light directing edges may be formed by cuts in the film that create an air gap between internal edges of the film. In one embodiment, the difference between radii of curvature of neighboring radii of arc sections of interior light directing edges is within 20% of an average distance between the arc sections. In one embodiment, the interior light directing edges totally internally reflect light propagating through the tapered light mixing region such that the light propagates at a smaller angle to a direction orthogonal to a width direction and orthogonal to the thickness direction of the film.
