Disclosed are antiperspirant gel stick compositions substantially free of unbound water comprising from about 5 to about 50% of a solubilized antiperspirant active, from about 7% to about 35% of intermediate polarity emollients, from about 1% to about 5% of a benzylidene sorbitol, from about 15% to about 75% of a polar solvent, from about 1% to about 20% of a coupling agent and from about 0.5% to about 10% of a bufferieng agent. These antiperspirant gel sticks provide very stable antiperspirant compositions with good efficacy as well as excellent cosmetic anesthetics which are further characterized by their ease of manufacture. Also disclosed is a method for the manufacture of these gel sticks as well as a method for treating or preventing perspiraton and malodor associated with human underarm perspiration.

Suspensoid antiperspirant stick compositions, which provide the user with excellent antiperspirant efficacy, reduced residue upon application to the skin, reduced residue on the skin after dry-down, and excellent cosmetics and aesthetics, are disclosed. These compositions are substantially free of water and comprise a volatile silicone material, a particulate antiperspirant active, a low melting point wax, and a non-volatile paraffinic hydrocarbon fluid selected from mineral oils and branched chain C.sub.16 -C.sub.68 hydrocarbons. The method of preventing and controlling perspiration wetness using these compositions is also disclosed.

The present invention relates to oil-in-water emulsion compositions useful for topical application to human skin. These compositions comprise from about 5% to about 60% by weight of the total composition of an oil phase having a viscosity from about 3000 cps to about 10,000,000 cps, wherein the oil phase comprises from about 0.1% to about 10% by weight of the total composition of a particulate thickener for the oil phase, and from 0% to about 10% by weight of the total composition of an oil phase emulsifier. These compositions also comprise from about 40% to about 95% by weight of the total composition of an aqueous phase selected from the group consisting of water, water-miscible solvents, and mixtures thereof, wherein the aqueous phase comprises from 0% to about 10% by weight of the total composition of an aqueous phase emulsifier. In these compositions the weight percentages of the oil phase emulsifier and of the aqueous phase emulsifer are not simultaneously zero.

These compositions comprise dihydroxyacetone, a salt selected from the group consisting of metabisulfite salts, sulfite salts, hydrogen sulfite salts, and mixtures thereof. These compositions are useful for imparting an artificial tan to human skin. In further embodiments, these compositions also comprise a sunscreen agent and are also useful for providing protection from the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation.

A pressure sensitive touch pad system, for example employing variable capacitance touch pads, employs low cost transducers subject to parameter drift and periodically (e.g. once each second) re-calibrates each touch pad. The periodic re-calibration allows a low cost transducer to be used for multi-point operation, as well as for simple on/off operation, such as for function selection.
