Abstract: Many circuit boards include conventional sockets for receiving optional ICs. Such sockets are soldered to the circuit board during the manufacturing process. However, many of such sockets are wasted because they are never used. Such waste can be eliminated by using a clip-on IC retaining apparatus. It includes a housing, a retaining clip, and four registration holes arranged at the comers of a trace pad on a circuit board. The housing includes a shallow, open cavity on a bottom side for receiving a SMD. Four registration fingers projecting from the bottom of the housing mate with the registration holes on the circuit board to align the pins of the SMD with the trace pad. Ribs on the walls of the cavity slide between the pins to separate and straighten any bent pins. The retaining clip includes four downwardly bent flat springs connected in a rectangular pattern. Four slots in the housing extend vertically between the top thereof and the bottom of the fingers. Hooks projecting from the comers of the clip are positioned through the slots. The tips of the hooks extend out the bottom of the fingers and engage the bottom rims of the registration holes. The clip-on IC retaining apparatus and the IC can be easily installed as necessary by a user anytime after the circuit board is manufactured.

Abstract: A resonant thermoelectric generator includes a thermoelectric power converter connected in series with a resonant circuit. A current generated by the thermoelectric power converter is cycled back and forth in the resonant circuit. The polarity of the thermoelectric power converter with respect to the resonant circuit is switched back and forth to correspond with the direction of the current. In a second embodiment, the thermoelectric power converter is coupled to the resonant circuit through a transformer, and its polarity is also switched to correspond with the direction of the current. In both embodiments, a negative retarding voltage that builds up in the thermoelectric power converter is eliminated by switching its polarity to always correspond with the direction of the current, so that energy is added to the resonant circuit in each cycle, and power is very efficiently converted from heat directly into electricity.

Abstract: A shoe pad includes air pumping elements for cooling the interior of a shoe. The pumping elements include forward pumping elements for pumping air from back to front, and backward pumping elements for pumping air from front to back. The pad includes an upper sheet attached to a lower sheet. Each pumping element includes a channel on the lower sheet covered by the upper sheet. The channel has an intake and an exhaust. Cavities are distributed along the channel. Resilient blisters on the upper sheet are aligned with the cavities on the lower sheet to define pumps. Each pump has an intake and an exhaust. Flap valves projecting down from the upper sheet are respectively positioned against the intakes of the pumps. Abstract: A vertical wind turbine with rotatable wind blades. Under wind pressure, each blade is capable to rotate and stop at a specified location for optimal angle of attack towards the wind to improve the efficiency of the turbine.
Each blade is divided into two unequal area of airfoils with the aerodynamic center of the blade located in the larger area trail end. Under wind pressure, the turbine frame would stop the blades at locations where each blade has an optimal angle of attack towards the wind. As a result, blades in the upwind force zone encounter minimal drag force to improve the efficiency of the turbine.-

Abstract: Torque is generated by the rotating front road wheel of a motorcycle for balance. When the vehicle is traveling too slowly, too little torque is generated for adequate balance, and when the vehicle is traveling too quickly, too much torque is generated for safe maneuvering. A torque compensator for a motorcycle thus includes a sensor for detecting the angular momentum of the road wheel. The detected angular momentum is compared to a predetermined optimal angular momentum by a comparator. An electric flywheel attached to the steering fork of the motorcycle is driven at a variable speed to generate a compensating angular momentum equal to the difference between the angular momentum of the road wheel and the optimal angular momentum. When the angular momentum of the road wheel is below the optimum, the flywheel is driven in the same direction as the road wheel to provide supplemental momentum, so that the sum of their momentums is equal to the optimal angular momentum. When the angular momentum of the road wheel exceeds the optimum, the flywheel is driven in the opposite direction as the road wheel to provide a counteracting momentum, so that the sum of their momentums is still equal to the optimal angular momentum. Thus the combined torque of the road wheel and flywheel is always optimized for the best stability and steering response throughout the entire speed range of the vehicle.
