    Abstract: Aircraft power plants and associated methods are provided. A method for driving a load on an aircraft includes: transferring motive power from an internal combustion (IC) engine to the load; discharging a flow of first exhaust gas from the IC engine when transferring motive power from the IC engine to the load; receiving the flow of first exhaust gas from the IC engine into a combustor; mixing fuel with the first exhaust gas in the combustor and igniting the fuel to generate a flow of second exhaust gas; receiving the flow of second exhaust gas at a turbine and driving the turbine with the flow of second exhaust gas from the combustor; and transferring motive power from the turbine to the load.

    Abstract: A rotary engine comprised of a pair of counterrotating rotors within a non-rotating outer housing. Each of the rotors is coupled to a common power shaft, one directly and the other through a reversing gear arrangement. Both are driven by the hyper-expansion of combustion gases in a repeating combustion cycle. Each has a generally circular, nearly frictionless working surface perpendicular to the power shaft axis. Each rotor surface defines chambers which rotate past each other. Within such chambers, compressed air and fuel are introduced, mixed, ignited, allowed to hyper-expand (and thus cause the rotation) and exhausted. The power shaft may be connected to a conventional clutch, torque converter, gearbox, differential, alternator or a similar system.

    Abstract: A moving wall positive displacement turbine system, or moving wall engine, utilizes the relative rotation of a ring, a central body, and a housing with respect to each other to generate power, where the ring is concentrically positioned in a channel between the central body and the housing. The housing and central body remain stationary while the ring rotates within the channel. The channel has low friction walls on either side to reduce friction between rotating components. The ring has a series of vanes passing through it and pivotally attached on each side to the low friction walls in the housing to compress an air-fuel mixture prior to combustion. The system is able to compress and combust an air-fuel mixture to generate direct rotational energy.

    Abstract: A topological rotary engine includes a first transmission mechanism, a second transmission mechanism, a valve mechanism, a rotor, and a cylinder. The rotor is arranged in an inner chamber of the cylinder. A cross section of the rotor is a curved-side topological polygon having n sides. A cross section of the inner chamber of cylinder is a curved-side topological polygon having n+1 sides, and n is an even number greater than or equal to 4. An outer topological curved surface of the rotor is meshed with an inner topological curved surface of the cylinder. The rotor reversely revolves around an axis of the cylinder with an eccentricity as a radius while rotating, and divides the cylinder into n+1 independent chambers. The cylinder is provided with n+1 fuel injection nozzles and n+1 spark plugs, which cooperate with the rotor and the valve mechanism.

    Abstract: A method of controlling a rotary engine is disclosed. The rotary engine includes a shroud surrounding a rotor. The rotor carries a combustion chamber spaced from an axis of rotation of the rotor. A pressure activated valve is located between the combustion chamber and obliquely arranged exhaust nozzles. An ECU controls the combustion cycle of the engine based on a signal from a pressure sensor in the combustion chamber. The electronic control responds to the pressure signal from the pressure sensor to open a fuel control valve, to fire a spark plug and cause combustion of the fuel within the combustion chamber, and to thereafter open an air control valve to purge the combustion chamber of exhaust gasses.

    Abstract: A circle-ellipse engine includes a stationary circular outer housing having a fixed elliptical inner cam surface, and a separate internal round rotor partitioned into equal segments that are populated by identical movable radial vanes. During rotation, the end of the vanes are positioned a precise, constant distance from the elliptical inner cam surface of the housing. During rotation, a variable height cavity is created representing the difference between the major and minor axes of the elliptical inner cam surface and the rotor face. During each rotation, aspirated air is continuously drawn into combustion chambers, compressed, mixed with fuel, ignited, and exhaust gas products are expelled.

    Abstract: A rotary engine casing having at least one end wall of an internal cavity for a rotor including a seal-engaging plate sealingly engaging the peripheral wall to partially seal the internal cavity and a member mounted adjacent the seal-engaging plate outside of the internal cavity. The member and seal-engaging plate having abutting mating surfaces which cooperate to define between them at least one fluid cavity communicating with a source of liquid coolant. When the casing includes a plurality of rotor housings, the end wall may be between rotor housings. A method of manufacturing a rotary engine casing is also discussed.
