Abstract: A device is disclosed for interfacing with a variety of transducer types to generate a measurement value of a certain property. The device has at least one sensor block that in turn has at least one sensor channel containing sensor circuitry. The sensor circuitry is configured to cooperate with a particular transducer to generate an electrical signal representing the property. Connected to the sensor block is a control block. The control block has configuration circuitry for enabling the sensor circuitry. Additionally, the control block contains conversion circuitry for converting the signal to the measurement value using a conversion equation. A user interface provides the means for inputting configuration information and outputting the measurement value. In one embodiment, the sensor block also contains a multiplicity of sensor channels and multiplexing circuitry for enabling the control block to address each sensor channel individually. The device may also have a plurality of circuits in each sensor circuit. The configuration circuitry enables a selection of these circuits according to the transducer used and the measurement desired. This embodiment may also have conversion circuitry that is responsive to the configuration circuitry such that the conversion equation relates to the selection.

Abstract: A method for transmitting synchronization information with data, which data corresponds to a sequence of samples representative of a signal, includes detecting the occurrence of two consecutive equivalent samples and inserting a synchronization pattern for the second-occurring sample prior to transmission. At a receiving end, the incoming signal is monitored to detect the presence of the sync pattern and hold the value of the receiver output at the value of the immediately previous received sample. In this manner, the signal is reconstructed without degradation, and byte synchronization information is sent without any bandwidth loss.

Abstract: A telecommunication system for transmitting video and plural audio information on a transmission medium includes a facility and an addressable terminal. The facility includes arrangements for providing addressed video frames containing information corresponding to still images and for providing addressed audio frames containing information corresponding to audio bursts. There is also means for providing non-addressed signals containing information corresponding to at least one channel of continuous audio. The addressed video frames, addressed audio frames, and non-addressed signals are coupled to the transmission medium and sent to the terminal. The addressable terminal includes means for detecting said addressed video frames, addressed audio frames, and non-addressed signals on said transmission medium. Circuits select video frames and audio frames in response to their corresponding addresses. Arrangements are made for storing still images contained by selected video frames and for storing and playing audio bursts contained by selected audio frames. Circuits provide continuous audio signals contained by said non-addressed signals. A circuit attenuates the continuous audio signals in response to playing of an audio burst.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for protecting quality of service during a process involving bridge tap in a communications system are described. Bridge tap may occur during system construction, central office re-concentration, replacement projects, upgrade projects, expansion projects, and installation of back-up cables, etc. Cables, with one end connected to a point in the system, and the other end left unterminated, result in bridge tap. In the bridge tap moderator of the present invention, a plurality of termination networks are attached to a modular connector such that a separate termination load is placed across each connector terminal pair for each corresponding wire pair of the cable. Communication lines can be easily attached to the moderator thereby easily, quickly, and efficiently eliminating bridge tap on a large number of wire pairs. The bridge tap modulator apparatus and method of use also minimize the amount of time bridge tap exists during cable and/or communication device installation. The use of bridge tap moderator results in improved overall system performance reflected in an improvement in attainable sync rate and increase in allowable loop length.

Abstract: A telecommunication system for synchronizing a digital bit stream sent from a central facility to a terminal on lines of television frames. Each active line starts with a horizontal sync pulse and a color burst. A first data clock at the central facility provides first data clock pulses synchronized with said color burst. A circuit at the central facility provides a flag bit one clock pulse wide delayed by a first constant number of clock pulses from the start of the line's horizontal sync pulse. A second data clock at the terminal provides second data clock pulses synchronized with said color burst. A circuit at said terminal provides a time window delayed by a second constant number of clock pulses from the start of the line's horizontal sync pulse so as to bracket said flag bit. A plurality of second data clock pulses occur during said time window. Circuits at the terminal determine which of said plurality of second data clock pulses coincide in time with said flag bit, thereby synchronizing said data stream with said second data clock.
