The subject application is directed to a system and method for remote facsimile message retransmission. At least one document and identification data corresponding to a user are received for association with a facsimile transmission. Destination address data is then received, and facsimile transmission is commenced. Whether the transmission is successful is monitored, and a notification message is generated to the user, which message includes information relative to the monitored transmission of the document. Login data associated with the document is then received from an associated thin client interface. Update data, corresponding to an output of the monitoring that indicates a failure of a facsimile transmission of the at least one document in accordance with received address data, is received via the thin client interface. A facsimile retransmission, electronic mail transmission, or storage operation of the document is then commenced in accordance with the update data.

The present invention enables users to interface with a wide range of computing and telecommunication devices seamlessly without a cable connecting the devices. As such, the present invention allows for the replacement of the many proprietary cables that connect one device to another with one universal short-range radio link. The typical BLUETOOTH® system consist of four basic components: a radio (RF section) that receives and transmits data and voice; a baseband or link control unit that processes the transmitted or received data; link management software that manages the transmission; and supporting application software. Electronic devices incorporating BLUETOOTH® technology will replace RS-232, parallel, Universal Serial Bus (USB), and other types of cables with a single, standard wireless connection. BLUETOOTH® radio technology will also provide a universal bridge to existing data networks, a peripheral interface, and a mechanism to form small private ad hoc groupings of connected devices away from fixed network infrastructures.

The subject application is directed to a system and method for customizing a document processor interface. A user successfully logs onto a document processing device and selects to generate a customized graphical user-interface. When the user has previously created such an interface, the device retrieves stored selection data associated with the user and uses such data to selectively generate a customized interface. To create the customized interface, the user first selects desired functions to be displayed. The selected functions are then stored in association with user identification information by the device. A tangible output document is capable of being generated inclusive of encoded indicia representing selection data and user identification information. Subsequent scanning of the tangible output document by the device, or another document processing device, enables the scanning device to authenticate the user and generate a customized interface in accordance with the selection data contained in the encoded indicia.

Multiple virtual record containers are contained in a document management system, with each container associated with a corresponding record locator. Each record locator is a unique identifier, and is in turn associated with one or more items, such as files, folders, documents, groups of folders, or images. Each of these items are associated with one or more record locators, allowing them to be stored in the corresponding record container. A user is able to download all associated items of the a record container to a desktop, irrespective of the drive or directory in which each of those items reside.

Operational data is first communicated between document processing devices on one of a plurality of networks, each network having an assigned audit server from among a plurality of audit servers. Operational data is received into each audit server from each document processing device in its associated network. A data server receives the e-mail from each audit server and parses the operational data from each received e-mail. The parsed data is then stored in a database associated with the data server. The data server then generates a device report in accordance with a query to the database.

The method includes scanning a physical document at a resolution suitable for obtaining metadata from a visible element on the physical document in order to obtain a digital representation of the physical document as an electronic document. The method also includes processing an order for the consumable in response to the depletion notification, the order using the unique identifier to obtain billing preference data and shipping preference data for the multifunction peripheral device obtained from a database.
