Abstract: An improved anode primarily for use in a metal/air or metal/oxygen cell is described. The anode comprises a porous metal body wrapped in a first layer of hydrophilic gas impermeable material, such as a cellulosic membrane, having a plurality of slits or holes therein. A second layer of material which is hydrophilic, dimensionally stable, and heat sealable, such as copolymers of vinylchloride and acrylonitrile is placed over or around the first layer of material.
