An exemplary elevator system includes at least one elevator car. An access controller is configured to provide an access credential to a portable wireless communication device responsive to a request from that device indicating a desire for at least access to the elevator system. The access credential at least temporarily indicates that the desired access should be granted. A credential receiver is configured to obtain the provided access credential from the portable wireless communication device. An entry device allows the desired access responsive to the credential receiver obtaining the access credential.
Abstract:
An exemplary elevator input device includes a passenger interface configured to allow a passenger to place a call to indicate a desired elevator service. The elevator input device includes a controller configured to interpret any passenger input regarding desired elevator service. The controller identifies which of a plurality of elevator cars will be able to provide the desired elevator service according to a predetermined criterion. The plurality of elevator cars considered by the controller includes every elevator car that is capable of serving the call. The controller is also configured to assign the call to the identified elevator car. With the input device controller assigning the call to an identified elevator car, the dispatching of elevator cars is distributed among controllers of input devices rather than being accomplished at a single group controller.

The passenger interface allows the passenger to select the visual representation. A controller is configured to receive indications of passenger requests for elevator service and an indication from the passenger interface device regarding a selected visual representation. The controller determines an amount of space within an elevator car required to accommodate the item based on predetermined space information corresponding to the selected visual representation. The controller assigns a car to a passenger request based on a determination that the assigned car will have adequate space to accommodate the passenger and the item.

The authorized user input includes a selection of at least one of a feature used to present information to a passenger or a feature used to allow a passenger to request elevator service.
