摘要: A dual-mode mobile station (125) transmits an AMPS signal (Td AMPS) concurrently during transmission of a DS CDMA signal (Td DS CDMA) for purposes of handoff of the mobile station from the DS CDMA system to AMPS. Scanning receivers (221) at surrounding AMPS base-stations (135-138) measure the quality of the AMPS signal (Td AMPS) and determine the best base-station for handoff. To ensure a strong signal during concurrent transmission, other mobile stations not undergoing handoff are instructed to notch their transmissions during transmission by mobile station (125) of the AMPS signal (Td AMPS).

摘要: An AMPS system facilitates reception and processing of a DS CDMA signal transmitted by a mobile station (125). The AMPS system provides an alternate path for the signal to be received by a DS CDMA receiver (506) system. The DS CDMA receiver system generates a signal compatible with the AMPS system, adjusts the generated signal to be proportional to the DS CDMA signal, and inputs the adjusted signal (510) into the AMPS system. The AMPS system then processes the adjusted signal for purposes of handoff of the mobile station (125) from the DS CDMA system to the AMPS system.

摘要: A method of communication handover from a first communication entity (33) to a second communication entity (43) in a communication system (10) where a communication unit (80), communicating with a transceiver (23) associated with the second communication entity, is linked to the first communication entity. The invention provides for establishing a communication link between the communication unit and the second communication entity while maintaining a communication link between the communication unit and the first communication entitiy. Then, communications are substantially simultaneously transfered to the second communication entity while terminated from the first communication entity.

摘要: A communication system and a method of communicating data. A first backhaul site can be dynamically selected from a plurality of backhaul sites that are each configured to wirelessly communicate with an access point. A controller can dynamically configure a transmission parameter used to communicate a first backhaul data stream between the access point and the first backhaul site. The first backhaul data stream can be derived from a source data stream and can be wirelessly communicated between the access point and the first backhaul site. A second backhaul site also can be selected. A second backhaul data stream also can be derived from the source data stream and wirelessly communicated between the access point and the second backhaul site. The first and second backhaul data streams can be combined.

摘要: A method and apparatus for electing broadcast relay nodes (520B, H, M) in an ad hoc network (500). Each node (520A-520O) generates an attribute message including associated parameters. Each node (520A-520O) generates a weighted value (WV) based on the parameters. The WV can be included in the attribute message for that node, can provide a metric for ranking that node to be nominated to be a broadcast relay node, can alternatively provide a probability measure for that node to probabilistically elect itself as a broadcast relay node. The broadcast manager node (520C) receives the attribute messages and elects at least one nominated node as a broadcast relay node (520B, H, M) based on the attribute messages. Each node (520A-520O) can also initiate election of an intermediate broadcast relay node if that node fails to receive a test message within a predetermined time.

摘要: A method (400) for establishing a first communication link between a communications network (105) and a network node (115) in accordance with a first wireless communications protocol. The method also can include evaluating a signal parameter for a signal transmitted between a station (110) and the network node. In response to the channel quality exceeding a threshold, the station can be signaled to establish a second communication link with the network node in accordance with a second wireless communications protocol. The network node can bridge communications between the station and the communications network.

摘要: A Master device (e.g., a SIM card) is configured with information regarding one or more Slave devices (e.g., SIM cards) that are associated with the Master device. The Master device is installed in a user device that receives content files and access and usage rights from a content provider. The Master device identifies one or more Slave devices that are associated with the Master device and transmits content files and the rights data to the Slave devices. A user device in which a Slave device is installed receives the content files and rights data sent by the Master device. The Slave device extracts a key from the rights data and provides the key to a decryption component of the user device, which uses the key to decrypt the content file.

摘要: A wireless subscriber unit (200) determines (502) a billing mode applicable to a portion of a call, and generates (508, 518) partitioning information for the portion of the call, corresponding to the billing mode. The wireless subscriber unit and a consolidation system (300, 400) cooperate to partition (514, 526) the billing charges between at least two billable entities, based upon the partitioning information. A method of partitioning is also described.
