摘要: A method of communication handover from a first communication entity (33) to a second communication entity (43) in a communication system (10) where a communication unit (80), communicating with a transceiver (23) associated with the second communication entity, is linked to the first communication entity. The invention provides for establishing a communication link between the communication unit and the second communication entity while maintaining a communication link between the communication unit and the first communication entitiy. Then, communications are substantially simultaneously transfered to the second communication entity while terminated from the first communication entity.

摘要: A dual-mode mobile station (125) transmits an AMPS signal (Td AMPS) concurrently during transmission of a DS CDMA signal (Td DS CDMA) for purposes of handoff of the mobile station from the DS CDMA system to AMPS. Scanning receivers (221) at surrounding AMPS base-stations (135-138) measure the quality of the AMPS signal (Td AMPS) and determine the best base-station for handoff. To ensure a strong signal during concurrent transmission, other mobile stations not undergoing handoff are instructed to notch their transmissions during transmission by mobile station (125) of the AMPS signal (Td AMPS).

摘要: An AMPS system facilitates reception and processing of a DS CDMA signal transmitted by a mobile station (125). The AMPS system provides an alternate path for the signal to be received by a DS CDMA receiver (506) system. The DS CDMA receiver system generates a signal compatible with the AMPS system, adjusts the generated signal to be proportional to the DS CDMA signal, and inputs the adjusted signal (510) into the AMPS system. The AMPS system then processes the adjusted signal for purposes of handoff of the mobile station (125) from the DS CDMA system to the AMPS system.

摘要: The method of conveying control and program information between cellular radiotelephone controllers and of detecting information errors is disclosed. When a program memory information error is detected, a predetermined amount of memory information is conveyed from a first controller to a second controller. If a comparison of checksums of a predetermined amount of memory information stored at the second controller and the memory information received from the first controller matches, additional memory information is conveyed. If a match is not found, the predetermined amount of memory information is reconveyed from the first controller to the second controller.

摘要: A cellular radiotelephone system providing service to remote units having a voice operated transmitter (VOX) is disclosed. If the regularly scheduled periodic signal quality measurements made by fixed site equipment indicate that the remote unit signal has not been received for a predetermined number of measurements, an audit request is transmitted to the remote unit. The remote unit responsively keys its transmitter for a predetermined period of time. A first special scan is programmed into the regular process such that the fixed site equipment may continue with its regular process until the signal quality measurement must be made. A second measurement is made following the first and if the two signal quality measurements made while the VOX remote unit is known to be transmitting agree, system reconfiguration for the service of this remote unit may be implemented by the cellular system.

摘要: Handoff from a Code-Division, Multiple Access (CDMA) protocol to an Advanced Mobile Phone Service (AMPS) protocol occurs by comparing a remote unit's (405) phase shift measurement to a threshold (503) and determining a reference CDMA base station (401) from an active set of CDMA base stations (515). Next, corrected phase shifts are calculated for each CDMA base station in the active set (521) and the remote unit (405) is handed off to an AMPS base station (109) underlying the CDMA coverage area (126) having the smallest corrected phase shift (525).

摘要: Generally stated, a method for performing soft-handoff within a wireless communication system 100 is described herein. The wireless communication system 100 includes, inter alia, a mobile station 104, a first base station 102 in communication with said mobile station via a first communication resource 120, and a second base station 106 with a corresponding second communication resource 130. In a first preferred embodiment, a determination is made that the first communication resource 120 is no longer necessary. The wireless communication system 100 verifies that the second base station 106 has acquired the mobile station 104 via the second communication resource 130. If the second base station 106 has yet to acquire the mobile station 104 on the second communication resource 130, the wireless communication system 100 will override the normal power control mechanisms, increasing the mobile station's 104 transmit power, thereby mitigating the opportunity for an orphan condition to develop.

摘要: An apparatus and method is provided for adjusting a Quality of Service (QoS) for a communication device in a communication network. One step includes registering an application from a service provider with the communication device and the communication network. Another step includes receiving, by the communication device, a token from a token provider that permits a modified QoS level for the registered application. Another step includes sending the token by the communication device to the communication network. Another step includes negotiating the QoS level between the service provider and the communication device, dependent at least in part on the reception of the token. Another step includes providing, for the communication device, the modified QoS level permitted by the token for the registered application.

摘要: A method and apparatus for providing a service from an application service provider to a client in a communications system including a network proxy describes a first step of defining services provided by the service provider as Extensible Markup Language (XML) metadata. A next step includes defining services desired by the client as XML metadata. A next step includes collecting the XML metadata from the client and service provider. A next step includes comparing the client XML metadata against the service provider XML metadata. A next step includes providing the substantially matched service from the service provider to the client upon the finding of a substantial match between the client metadata and the service provider metadata.
