Abstract:
Transparent impact-, heat- and fire-resistant polymeric materials for making windows, windshields and plane canopies are provided wherein the polymeric materials comprise an exposy resin cured with an alkoxy boroxine catalyst and a polycarbonate resin, preferably a polyphenolphthalein carbonate resin. Laminates including the advantages of both resins comprise a transparent layer of epoxy resin and a transparent layer of a polycarbonate resin joined together with a transparent adhesive interlayer.

AN INTUMESCENT AGENT IS PROVIDED WHICH CONTAINS PARANITROANILINE-BISULFATE DISPERSED IN A MIXTURE OF AN ACRYLONITRILE-BUTADIENE COPOLYMER AND A PHENOLIC RESIN. THE ADHESION AND WATER RESISTANCE ARE BOTH GREATER THAN INTUMESCENT AGENTS KNOWN IN THE PAST.

AN INTUMESCENT AGENT IS PROVIDED WHICH CONTAINS THE AMMONIUM SALT OF 4-NITROANILINE-2-SULFONIC ACID AND A POLYMER OF THE MERCAPTAN TYPE WHICH MAY CONTAIN DISULFIDE LINKAGES OR POLYOXALKYLENE LINKAGES. THE ADHESION AND CHAR RESISTANCE OF SUCH COMPOSITIONS CAN BE FURTHER IMPROVED BY THE ADDITION OF EPOXY RESINS.
