摘要: Embodiments relate to a polythiol composition for a plastic optical lens and a polythiourethane-based plastic optical lens prepared therefrom. In the embodiments, a first polythiol compound having mercapto groups only as a hydrogen-bondable functional group and a second polythiol compound having mercapto groups as a hydrogen-bondable functional group and a hydrogen-bondable functional group other than a mercapto group are used in an appropriate amount. Thus, not only is it possible to control the viscosity of a polymerizable composition at the initial stage of polymerization at a low temperature of 5 to 15° C. and to stabilize the rate of increase in the viscosity of the composition and the reaction rate thereof, but also the change in the viscosity at a low temperature is low, thereby preventing the generation of striae, bubbles, and the like. Further, various plastic lenses such as eyeglass lenses, camera lenses, and the like having excellent appearance characteristics (without striae and bubbles) and excellent optical characteristics can be obtained from the composition.

摘要: The embodiments relate to a polythiol composition for a plastic optical lens and a polythiourethane-based plastic optical lens prepared therefrom. 摘要: Copolymerization of elemental sulfur with functional comonomers afford sulfur copolymers having a high molecular weight and high sulfur content. Nucleophilic activators initiate sulfur polymerizations at relative lower temperatures and in solutions, which enable the use of a wider range of comonomers, such as vinylics, styrenics, and non-homopolymerizing comonomers. Nucleophilic activators promote ring-opening reactions to generate linear polysulfide intermediates that copolymerize with comonomers. Dynamic sulfur-sulfur bonds enable re-processing or melt processing of the sulfur polymer. Chalcogenide-based copolymers have a refractive index of about 1.7-2.6 at a wavelength in a range of about 5000 nm-8μιτι. The sulfur copolymer can be a thermoplastic or a thermoset for use in elastomers, resins, lubricants, coatings, antioxidants, cathode materials for electrochemical cells, dental adhesives/restorations, and polymeric articles such as polymeric films and free-standing substrates. Optical substrates are constructed from the chalcogenide copolymer and are substantially transparent in the visible and infrared spectrum.

摘要: Compositions of flame retardants and methods of enhancing char formation in a flame retardant-treated substrate. A base material is combined with a flame retardant to form the flame retardant-treated substrate. The flame retardant contains a sulfur copolymer prepared by the polymerization of sulfur monomers with organic monomers. The flame retardant can be deposited on a surface of the base material, coated on the base material, or mixed into the base material. When the flame resistant substrate is on fire, the flame retardant forms a charring layer on the flame retardant-treated substrate. The charring layer can extinguish and prevent the fire from spreading.

摘要: Provided is a method of preparing a transparent, non-elastomeric optical article including (1) combining to form a reaction mixture free of urethanation catalysts (a) a polyisocyanate component; and (b) an active hydrogen component of polyol and/or polythiol, and at least one compound containing both amine and hydroxyl functional groups; (2) allowing the polyisocyanate component to react with amine functional groups in the active hydrogen component to form an intermediate product including a polyurea prepolymer having hydroxyl functional groups in admixture with the polyol and/or polythiol and, optionally, the compound containing both amine and hydroxyl functional groups; (3) mixing the intermediate product with additional polyisocyanates and optionally a urethanation catalyst to form a second reaction mixture; (4) introducing the second reaction mixture to a mold to form a thermoset polymerizate; and (5) releasing the polymerizate from the mold. Optical films and articles prepared by the method also are provided.

摘要: A method for producing 3-mercaptopropionic acid and methods using same for producing a carbonic acid ester compound having a mercapto group and a thiourethane-based optical material. The present invention improves a process during the production of 3-mercaptopropionic acid, significantly increases yield, and reduces the temperature and time during vacuum distillation, thereby preventing the destruction of a product and significantly increasing productivity. The present invention allows high-purity 3-mercaptopropionic acid having an excellent color to be finally yielded; accordingly, by using same, a high-purity carbonic acid ester compound having an excellent color and a mercapto group can be inexpensively obtained. A thiourethane-based polymeric composition and a thiourethane-based optical material obtained by polymerizing same can likewise be inexpensively obtained by using said carbonic acid ester compound. Such carbonic acid ester compound can be used for the production of inexpensive thiourethane optical lenses; consequently, inexpensive optical lenses having an excellent color can be obtained.

摘要: Polythioether polymers, sealants containing polythioether polymers, and compounds useful as stabilizing monomers in the manufacture of polythioether polymers are provided. In many embodiments the polymers and sealants demonstrate reduced risk of spoilage that may be caused by low temperature storage of the polymer or uncured sealant. Compounds useful as stabilizing monomers include compounds according to formula I: CH2═CR1—CHR2—S—R3—S—CHR4—CR5═CH2 [I] wherein R1, R2, R4 and R5 are independently selected from —H, —CH3 or —C2H5, and wherein R3 is selected from divalent groups comprising 2-12 carbon atoms, 0-5 ether oxygen atoms and 0-5 thioether sulfur atoms, which may be straight, branched or cyclic.
