Abstract: Elevator systems and methods are provided. The systems include a traveling component movable along a guide rail within an elevator shaft, an elevator machine operably connected to the traveling component and including a machine brake, and an overspeed safety system. The overspeed safety system includes a safety brake and an electromechanical actuator, the brake engageable with the guide rail. A safety system controller operably connects to the electromechanical actuator and triggers the electromechanical actuator due to at least a detected triggering event. A temporary power supply is operably connected to the overspeed safety system to provide power in the event of a power failure.

The elevator safety system (1) comprises at least one safety gear (20) configured for moving along the hoistway (4) and, upon activation, braking movement the elevator car (60); at least one mobile safety node (43, 45) configured for moving along the hoistway (4) with the at least one safety gear (20) and for controlling the at least one safety gear (20); and at least one stationary safety node (42, 44). The elevator safety system (1) further comprises a communication bus (17) connecting the safety nodes (42-45) with each other and allowing the safety nodes (42-45) to communicate with each other.

According to a method of controlling the elevator car, a portable device transmits a probe request, the portable device is carried by a passenger of the elevator system. The probe request contains at least a first probe request data set, the first probe request data set is of a first type. The wireless network access point detects the probe request. The at least one processor accesses data storage. In the data storage there is stored a plurality of passenger profiles. Each passenger profile of the plurality of passenger profiles contains a first profile data set of the first type and a second profile data set representing at least one destination floor.
