The present invention provides a gas barrier film comprising at least one titanium oxide film layer (B) laminated on one or both sides of a plastic film layer (A). The film of the invention has excellent barrier properties to gases such as oxygen, carbonic acid gas and water vapor, good UV screening properties, good flavor retention properties, and high transparency.

The present invention provides a curable resin coating composition consisting essentially of:(i) a resin (A) containing .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carbonyl group and primary and/or secondary hydroxyl group, or(ii) a mixture of a resin (B) containing .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carbonyl group and a resin (C) containing primary and/or secondary hydroxyl group, and(iii) at least one curing catalyst selected from the group consisting of alkali metal alkoxides, metal hydroxides, organic acid salts of metals, quaternary ammonium hydroxides, quaternary phosphonium hydroxides, tertiary sulfonium hydroxides and organic acid salts of these onium hydroxides.

The present invention provides a topcoating composition prepared by incorporating a specified organosilicate and/or its condensate into a specified organic coating composition, a film formed from said topcoating composition being such that a surface of the film, which has been subjected to an acid treatment, shows a contact angle to water of 70.degree. or less; and a film-forming process which comprises coating said topcoating composition onto a substrate to form a film, followed by treating the surface of the film with an acid. The present invention provides such effects that the film obtained according to the present invention shows good weather resistance and good stain resistance.

The invention provides a method of forming a top coat by forming in sequence a colored base coat on a substrate and a clear coat, the method being characterized in that at least one of the colored base coat and the clear coat is formed by a curable coating composition consisting essentially of:(a) (a-1) a resin having a hydroxyl group, a carboxyl group and an epoxy group in the same molecule, or (a-2) a mixture of a hydroxyl- and carboxyl-containing resin with a polyepoxide;(b) a silicon compound having, per molecule, at least one silanol group and/or at least one hydrolyzable group directly bound to a silicon atom; and(c) an organic solvent.
