摘要: A system and method for orthogonal modulation of signals in communication systems. In the transmitter, differentially coded symbols are used to select time-shifted code sequences. The timing, or code position, of a code sequence is determined at the receiver by comparison to the previous code from the same channel, thus eliminating the need for dual-channel transmission and eliminating error due to differences in path propagation time. A fixed preamble code is also used to synchronize the receiver.

摘要: During operation of a node in a secondary communication system (100) data enters a spreader (301) and is appropriately spread. The spread data is then modulated onto all available channels using a multi-carrier OFDM modulation technique. This entails the spread data being modulated onto those channels that are currently being used by the primary communication system (120). Finally, a transmitter (303) transmits the spread data only over carriers that will not interfere with the primary communication system.

摘要: A method and apparatus for encoding and decoding signals using code position modulation (CPM) in a communication system. The encoding method includes storing an N-chip pseudo-random noise sequence, such as an m-sequence, in a circular shift register and circularly shifting it to obtain a shifted m-sequence. The shifted m-sequence is compared to an m-bit symbol corresponding to the k bit information value. If the shifted m-sequence and the m-symbol match, the shifted m-sequence is output as the N-chip CPM sequence. Alternatively, the m-symbol is used as an initial condition for a pseudo-noise sequence generator. The corresponding decoder stores an N-chip m-sequence in a circular shift register and a correlates shifted version of the m-sequence with a received N-chip CPM sequence. When a peak in the correlation value is detected, an m-bit field is retrieved from the circular shift register and mapped back to a k-bit information value.

摘要: A method (500) and system for compensation of frequency offset between a first transceiver (102) and a second transceiver (104) in wireless communication are disclosed. The compensation of the frequency offset between two or more transceivers (102, 104) is achieved by transmitting a set of frequency synchronization bursts. These bursts contain information about the frequency offset. The frequency synchronization bursts are transmitted by the first transceiver at a range of frequencies above and below its carrier frequency (502). When system conditions permit, a subset of the set of frequency synchronization bursts may be transmitted instead of transmitting the full set of frequency synchronization bursts.

By maintaining an unoccupied spectral quantum between each CR device, the channel technique ensures that a device just beginning transmissions in the CR frequency band will have spectrum from which to start growing. The growth can continue up to the maximum the spectrum can support, when the bandwidth of each device has been reduced to one spectral quantum, and there are no available spectral quanta left.
