摘要： An image display device constructed by: an image display means for displaying an image by moving chargeable particles arranged between electrodes by means of a voltage applied to the electrodes; and a light emission means for emitting a light to an image display surface of the image display means (first aspect of the invention). Moreover, an image display device which has an image display panel, in which two or more groups of particles or liquid powders having different colors and different charge characteristics are sealed between opposed two substrates, at least one of two substrates being transparent, and, in which the particles or the liquid powders, to which an electrostatic field produced by a pair of electrodes provided on one substrate or both substrates respectively is applied, are made to move so as to display an image, characterized in that a color filter is arranged to an outer surface or an inner surface of a transparent substrate of the image display panel so as to perform a color displaying (second aspect of the invention).

In second to sixth aspects of the invention, an image display device has a construction such that the electrode is arranged to a surface of the substrate through a transparent elastic member, or, an anti-reflection layer is arranged, or, a connection operation between two substrates through a partition wall is optimized.

摘要： An image display device according to first to third aspects of the invention has an image display panel, in which two or more groups of particles having different colors and different charge characteristics are sealed between two substrates, at least one of two substrates being transparent, and, in which the particles, to which an electrostatic field produced by a pair of electrodes provided on respective substrates is applied, are made to fly and move so as to display an image. In the first aspect of the invention, micro-concave portions and/or micro-convex portions are provided to a part of or an overall of a surface of the electrode (first embodiment) or micro-cutout holes are provided to a part of or an overall of a surface of the electrode (second embodiment). Moreover, in the second aspect of the invention, an insulation member having a volume resistance of not less than 1×1012 [Ω·cm] is coated thinly on a surface of the substrate to which the particles are contacted so as to provide a thin insulation film, or, an arithmetic average roughness (Ra) and a concave-convex average distance (Sm) of a surface of the substrate, to which the particles are contacted, satisfy the predetermined formulas. Further, in the third aspect of the invention, an image display state is read-out by detecting a fly/move current produced when the particles are flown and moved in a pixel.

摘要： An image display device has an image display panel, in which two or more groups of particles having different colors and different charge characteristics are sealed between two substrates, at least one of two substrates being transparent, and, in which the particles, to which an electrostatic field produced by a pair of electrodes provided on respective substrates is applied, are made to fly and move so as to display an image. (1) The image display panel has matrix electrodes composed of pairs of electrodes arranged in a matrix manner, a display drive is performed by applying a high potential VH or a low potential VL to respective electrodes constituting the matrix electrodes, and respective electrodes are connected to an intermediate potential V0 between the potentials VH and VL through a small impedance when the potential VH or VL is not applied to respective electrodes. (2) The image display device has an alternating voltage generating means for generating an alternating voltage with the frequency swept, and the alternating voltage from the alternating voltage generating means is applied between a pair of electrodes during the interval of displaying on the image display panel. (3) At least one of each pair of electrodes is composed of split electrodes, and a voltage is applied between the split electrode during the interval of displaying to fly and move the particles between the split electrodes.
