Abstract: A novel spatial light modulator (SLM) includes a cover glass, and modulation layer, and a plurality of pixel minors, and separates unwanted, reflected light from desired, modulated light. In one embodiment, a geometrical relationship exists between the cover glass and the pixel minors, such that light that reflects from the cover glass is separated from light that reflects from the pixel minors and is transmitted from the SLM. In one example, one of the cover glass or the pixel minors is angled with respect to the modulation layer. In another example embodiment, the cover glass has a particular thickness, which introduces destructive interference between light that reflects from the top and bottom surfaces of the cover glass. In another embodiment antireflective coatings are disposed between optical interfaces of the SLM. In another embodiment, light from the SLM is directed through an optical filter to remove unwanted light.

Abstract: Back scattering in an optical waveguide at an operating wavelength is controlled by adjusting an optical phase of light propagating in the waveguide at one or more locations along the waveguide. A portion of the back scattered light is tapped off near an input port and coupled into a photodetector. A controller detects changes in the photodetector signal and adjusts an optical phase tuner configured to control the optical phase of light in the waveguide at the selected location or locations. The optical phase tuner may be configured to vary the refractive index of at least a portion of the waveguide.

Abstract: Detection electrode wirings formed by an ITO film have a high resistance and the detection capability thereof is degraded with the increase of the size and/or resolution. A manufacturing method of a display device includes: (a) arranging liquid crystal between an array substrate and a counter substrate; (b) forming a metal layer and a low-reflection layer on the counter substrate after the step (a); (c) applying an overcoat film onto the metal layer and the low-reflection layer; and (d) curing the overcoat film to form a protection layer. The step (d) cures the overcoat film with light and heat.
