    Abstract: Provided is a method of decoding motion information characterized in that information for determining motion-related information includes spatial information and time information, wherein the spatial information indicates a direction of spatial prediction candidates used for sub-units from among spatial prediction candidates located on a left side and an upper side of a current prediction unit, and the time information indicates a reference prediction unit of a previous picture used for prediction of the current prediction unit. Further, an encoding apparatus or a decoding apparatus capable of performing the above described encoding or decoding method may be provided.

    Abstract: Provided are a method and apparatus for encoding or decoding a coding unit on an outline of a picture. An image decoding method and apparatus according to an embodiment determine whether a current coding unit extends across an outline of a picture, by comparing a location of the current coding unit in the picture to at least one of a width and a height of the picture, split the current coding unit in at least one direction into a plurality of coding units based on a shape of the current coding unit upon determining that the current coding unit extends across the outline of the picture, obtain block shape information and split type information of the current coding unit from a bitstream and split the current coding unit into a plurality of coding units based on the block shape information and the split type information upon determining that the current coding unit does not extend across the outline of the picture, and decode a coding unit that is no longer split among the plurality of coding units.

    Abstract: A decoding apparatus includes a splitter which splits the image into a plurality of maximum coding units, hierarchically splits a maximum coding unit among the plurality of maximum coding units into a plurality of coding units, and determines one or more transformation residual blocks from a coding unit among the plurality of coding units, wherein the one or more transformation residual blocks include sub residual blocks, a parser which obtains an effective coefficient flag of a sub residual block among the sub residual blocks from a bitstream, the effective coefficient flag of the sub residual block indicating whether at least one non-zero effective transformation coefficient exists in the sub residual block, and when the effective coefficient flag indicates that at least one non-zero transformation coefficient exists in the sub residual block, obtains transformation coefficients of the sub residual block based on location information of the non-zero transformation coefficient and level information of the non-zero transformation coefficient obtained from the bitstream, and an inverse-transformer which performs inverse-transformation on a transformation residual block including the sub residual block based on the transformation coefficients of the sub residual block.
