A mobile device includes a memory configured to store a program; and a processor configured to control one or more external apparatuses by executing the program. The program includes commands which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to identify the one or more external apparatuses communicable with and controllable by the mobile device, from a plurality of external apparatuses; provide apparatus information of the one or more external apparatuses, to a server; receive, from the server, control information for controlling the one or more external apparatuses for a user's intention; and transmit a control command to the one or more external apparatuses based on the received control information.

The mobile device includes a wireless communication unit which performs wireless communication via a wireless network; a signal processing unit which processes a signal transmitted/received by the wireless communication unit; a display unit which displays an image based on the signal processed by the signal processing unit; and a control unit which receives a message from a counterpart device, displays the received message on the display unit, remotely accesses a remote device, and controls the remote device to allow the mobile device to access information stored in the remote device.

A method for executing an application based on a connection between devices by automatically connecting devices, and a device, are disclosed. The method includes: detecting an occurrence of first short distance communication between at least one external device and the device; receiving connection information which relates to a second short distance communication mode and application information which relates to the at least one external device from the at least one external device via the first short distance communication; establishing a connection based on the second short distance communication mode between the at least one external device and the device based on the received connection information which relates to the second short distance communication mode; and controlling the at least one external device via the second short distance communication mode by using an application which is executable based on the received application information.

The method of transmitting data performed by a server through a network includes receiving and storing data from a device of a first user; detecting that a device of a second user accesses the server; selecting data from the stored data based on user information; processing the selected data to be optimized for the device of the second user; and transmitting the processed data to the device of the second user, wherein the server is configured to combine data received from a plurality of devices of the first user and transmit the combined data to the device of the second user.

A device and a method for performing a cooperative function with another device is provided. The device includes a communication unit; and a controller that determines whether the other device is in a surrounding area of the device based a signal received through the communication unit, selects one cooperative function from among a plurality of cooperative functions according to a relative position of the device with respect to the other device and performs the selected cooperative function with the other device. It is determined whether another device is in a surrounding area of a device. When it is determined that the other device is in the surrounding area, the cooperative function is performed by the device with the other device according to a location of the other device. Accordingly, the cooperative function may be performed automatically if devices are in adjacent areas without a user's command.
