A thermoplastic fluorine-containing resin blend composition comprising(a) from 5 to 95% by weight of a thermoplastic fluorine-containing resin, and(b) from 95 to 5% by weight of at least one modified ethylene polymer selected from the group consisting of the following components (i) and (ii).(i) A modified ethylene polymer obtained by subjecting an ethylene polymer and an alkyl acrylate to graft reaction conditions, wherein the total alkyl acrylate content including the alkyl acrylate which has been previously contained is from 5 to 70% by weight based on the weight of the modified ethylene polymer;(ii) A modified ethylene polymer obtained by subjecting an ethylene polymer having a crystallinity of from 4 to 50% and vinyl acetate to graft reaction conditions, wherein the total vinyl acetate content including the vinyl acetate which has been previously contained is from 5 to 70% by weight based on the weight of the modified ethylene polymer and the boiling xylene insoluble content is 10% by weight or less based on the weight of the modified ethylene polymer.

A semiconducting resin composition comprises: (A) 100 to 40 parts of a modified ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer prepared by graft processing of 100 parts of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer of a vinyl acetate content of less than 35 percent with 25 to 200 parts of an aromatic vinyl monomer; (B) 0 to 60 parts of a rubber; and (C) 3 to 150 parts of a carbon black with respect to 100 parts of the above described components (A) and (B), all quantities in "parts" and "percent" being by weight. A composition of this character has excellent characteristics for its use in forming the outer semiconducting layer of polyethylene-insulated cables.

A composition essentially consisting of a monoolefin copolymer rubber such as an ethylene-propylene copolymer rubber and a polyolefin resin such as polypropylene is granulated and then suspended, by stirring, in water containing a suspending agent. Then, a cross-linking agent is dispersed in the resulting suspension and introduced into the granules at a temperature lower than the decomposition temperature of the cross-linking agent to obtain a granular composition uniformly impregnated with the cross-linking agent. This composition is used as such or as a masterbatch to prepare partially cross-linked thermoplastic elastomers. Such compositions having a cross-linking agent content of not greater than 5% by weight based on the amount of the rubber component can be converted into partially cross-linked thermoplastic elastomers having a uniform degree of cross-linking, simply by heating the impregnated granules statically to effect the cross-linking reaction.

A coated optical fiber comprising an optical fiber for transmitting information having coated thereon a ring-opened (co)polymer of a norbornene derivative having a polar group. Due to the excellent moldability of the polymer, the coated optical fiber can be produced with high productivity. Even when the coated optical fiber is produced at high speeds, the molding strain on the coating is small, and the coated optical fiber has a reduced heat shrinkage.
