Abstract:
A window vent stop for use in a sliding sash window assembly or a sliding door assembly. The vent stop has a housing adapted to be disposed in a recess in the non-movable sash member. This housing includes a cavity with a bottom plate therein. The tumbler has at least one pivot for pivotally securing the tumbler to the housing for movement between an extended position to prevent movement of the sliding member and a retracted position, to allow movement of the sliding member. Also within the housing is a spring for biasing the tumbler. The housing has one or more flexible members extending from the end walls of the housing that secure the housing to an opening in a window sash when a portion of the window sash is positioned between the underside of a lip on said housing and the flexible member.

A sash window fastener includes: a latch assembly; a sash lock assembly mounted upon the meeting rail; and a stop member mounted to the master window frame. The lock assembly includes a pivotable cam to engage a keeper on the master frame to lock the window, and a pivotable follower arm. The arm interconnects with the latch assembly within the meeting rail, so cam rotation that drives arm rotation also causes translation of the latch. The cam may occupy: an extended position to secure the cam to the keeper, with the latch engaging the master frame to prevent tilting, and being positioned below a protrusion on the stop member to redundantly lock the window; a first retracted cam position permitting sliding of the window; and a second retracted position permitting tilting of the sash window. Additional protrusions may be used on the stop member to serve as vent stop positions.

A lock adapted for attachment to a sash window/door without screws comprises: a shaft with a cam secured thereon is rotatably secured to a housing, with the cam disposed within a housing cavity and rotatable therefrom out of an opening, into an extended position. The housing may be a single integrally formed wall that preferably has a flat bottom surface. A first attachment leg protrudes out from the housing cavity to extend beyond the bottom surface, with a foot thereon extending beyond a first end of the housing. A second attachment leg protrudes out the housing cavity second end, with a foot thereon oriented toward the housing first end, and a locking tab extends from the housing bottom surface. Installation of the screwless sash lock is by receiving the first foot, second foot, and locking tab within correspondingly positioned openings in the window/door rail, through sequenced rotational and sliding motion.

A device may limit opening of a sash hingedly coupled to a master frame, and includes: a bracket attached to the sash; a first arm having a first end pivotally coupled to the bracket; a second arm having a first end pivotally coupled to the first arm's second end; means for biasing the second arm into a retracted position; and a release assembly. The release assembly is secured to the master frame and includes a hook pivotable between a first position and a second position, which, in the first position, may be releasably received in an opening in the second end of the second arm when the second arm is in the retracted position, as the sash is closed and received within the master window frame The second arm is disengaged from the hook, permitting fill opening of the sash, when the hook is pivoted into the second position.

A sash fastener for securing a slidable and tiltable sash window includes a lock assembly and left-hand and right-hand latch assemblies. The lock assembly is mounted upon the sash window meeting rail, and includes a pivotable cam to engage a keeper on the master frame, a handle to pivot the cam, and a pair of pivotable arms, each extending into the meeting rail. A link selectively connects the two arms, and when actuation of the handle causes the cam to rotate, it may selectively drive one of the arms to pivot, with the link causing the other arm to pivot. The left- and right-hand latch assemblies each include a housing, biasing means, a latch member with an adjustable receiver clip having an opening therein configured to receive one of the arms of the lock assembly, within the meeting rail, with movement of the arms actuating the latch to permit tilting.

A clip assembly may safely secure sliding sashes of a window or door during transportation, and, in one embodiment, be comprised of a strap member and a pawl member. The strap member may be comprised of a bumper portion, and a strap portion extending therefrom, where the strap portion may have a plurality of teeth formed within the thickness of the strap. The pawl member may have a pair of sidewalls supported by a top wall and an intermediate wall. The top wall may have a protrusion which includes a plurality of pawl teeth formed to complement the strap teeth, and be located proximate to the intermediate wall. The strap may be introduced through the gap between the top rail of an upper sash and bottom rail of the second sash, to then be inserted into the pawl, and thereby be retained by the respective teeth to secure the sashes.

A screwless-mounted window/door lock may include a handle assembly and tongue assembly. The handle assembly may include a base member, a handle member pivotally mounted thereto, and an elongated arm disposed through an opening in the base member, with a central portion pivotally mounted thereto. The handle drives the arm to pivot. The base member has a plurality of selectively arranged hook members, a portion of which are received through an opening in a side wall of the window/door frame to secure the handle assembly thereto in the horizontal direction. The tongue assembly may include a tongue slidably received in a housing. The tongue is actuated by pivotal movement of the arm. A second portion of the book members on the base member are received through a top wall of the frame to engage protrusions on the tongue housing to secure the handle assembly thereto in the vertical direction.
