    Abstract: The invention relates to a tool head with a spindle bearing arrangement The bearings (9, 10) of said arrangement rest with one of their bearing shells on a driven spindle (2) with a tool holding fixture (1). With their other bearing shell they interact with a housing (8) in such a manner that in at least one part (10) of the bearings (9, 10) the respective other bearing shell interacts with a sliding piece (11) which is slideable along the housing (8) in the one sliding direction and which locks the spindle (2) with the housing (8) in a locking position. In the other sliding direction, said sliding piece releases the spindle in a release position. The invention provides a universally useful tool head by the following configuration: The respective other bearing shell of the one part (10) of the bearings (9, 10) is at least partially enclosed by the sliding piece (11). Said sliding piece (11) is forced into the locking position with a predetermined contact force by a drive device. The sliding piece closely fits the housing (8) when the lock is released. Said tool head can be used for both milling and turning on a lathe. The tool head provides also a means for simultaneously relieving the spindle bearing arrangement when the tool is operated in a nonrotative mode.

    Abstract: A projectile for the dispersal of a load with time delay after firing from a launching tube (1) with hot gas under pressure is described. It comprises a cylindrical casing (2) comprising a cross wall (3) on one side of which there is a first pressure chamber (7) limited outwardly by an external side wall (4), provided with a supply opening (5) for the hot gas. The cross wall (3) limits on its other side a second pressure chamber (9) which is formed by the casing and a piston (8) axially movable in the casing, which stands in connection with said load (10). A throttled gas connection (11)is provided between the first and second pressure chambers (7, 9). The piston (8), under the effect of a pressure built up in the second pressure chamber, is arranged to perform an axial movement, firing the load (10) out of the casing (2), but not until the pressure has reached a predetermined level. The projectile is characterized particularly in that a fibrous material (16) with relatively good thermal conductivity, for instance steel wool, is so arranged in the first pressure chamber (7), that the pressure in the gas conducted to the first pressure chamber remains relatively constant with time, whereby the pressure in the gas conducted to the second pressure chamber (9) shows a relatively constant increase per time unit.

    Abstract: A tooling apparatus having a main somewhat hollow yoke-like housing adjustably positionable in micrometer increments relative to a supporting base member which may be readily and fixedly attached to the lathe bed. The yoke housing is provided with an enlarged opening for receiving a rotating assembly including a plurality of radially adjustable jaw members adapted for engaging the outer surface of an elongate work piece for retention of the work piece within the jaws thereof. The jaw members may be adjusted in micrometer increments for precise positioning of the work piece relative to the opening thereof, and relative to the lathe chuck, either centrally relative thereto, or offset therefrom. The housing and rotating jaw assembly are sealed and provided with bearings therein to permit rotation while enabling passage of fluid through hollow openings therein for enabling lubrication and cooling to permit high speeds of rotation 20 during machining of a work piece supported by the lathe chuck and the apparatus.

    Abstract: Apparatus is provided for mounting a rotatable member such as a machine tool spindle within a bore provided in a housing, the rotatable member being journaled in a number of bearings. A bearing support sleeve disposed within the bore to support the bearings includes a first portion tightly fitted in the bore, a second portion slip-fitted in the bore and positioned to apply a pre-load force to the bearings, and a yieldable member joining the first and second portions. The pressure in a fluid system associated with the yieldable member is increased to deform the yieldable member and to thereby urge the second portion axially to apply a pre-load force to the bearings which corresponds to the pressure increase.
