摘要: The present invention employs an inexpensive method and apparatus for media height sensing. A sheet fed media-using-machine has a media holder. The media holder holds a stack of a variable quantity of sheets of a medium to be supplied to a media-using-machine. The media holder has a structure for supporting the sheets and has a stack pusher which may be a mechanical device that pushes the stack into a position such that said media-using-machine may withdraw the sheets from said stack. The stack pusher has a variable position within a range of motion wherein such position is dependent upon a quantity of sheets in the stack. A variable device is attached to the stack pusher such that an electrical property of said variable device varies in relation to said position thereby allowing calculation of an estimate of the quantity of sheets in said stack, where the calculation is performed using said electrical property. The variable device may be, for example, a capacitor or a resistor, and the electrical property being capacitance or resistance, respectively.

摘要: An apparatus and a method for optimizing the quality of electrophotographic imaging based on the properties of the printing media are presented. In order to determine the properties of the printing media without interrupting the normal image transfer process, the present invention uses rollers as a part of a sensor. When the printing media lies between the rollers, the rollers and the printing media form an RC circuit. A pulse is applied to the RC circuit, the step response of which is periodically sampled. The samples may be obtained logarithmically in time. Based on the resultant response, a controller calculates the resistance and the capacitance of the printing media and adjusts imaging parameters, such as the transfer bias voltage, for optimal image transfer. The entire optimization process occurs between the time the printing media passes through the rollers and the time the imaging transfer is executed.

摘要: A capacitance measuring circuit having a sensor electrode and a reference electrode that are spaced apart so that a material can be positioned between the two electrodes. A first polarity and a second polarity voltage source are used to charge the sensor electrode and a switch controller controls the charging and discharging of a capacitor by the sensor electrode. The charge on the capacitor after being charged and at least partially discharged by the sensor electrode represents the capacitance between the sensor electrode and the reference electrode. The charge on the capacitor is used to measure the position of the material relative to the sensor and reference electrode. The measuring circuit also has a system parasitic controller to measure and adjust for system parasitic capacitance in the measuring circuit.

摘要: There is provided a sheet feeder for a sheet-fed press which allows an optimum separation state of printing sheets 27 to be established readily and certainly. Air is jetted out from an injection nozzle 6 toward the upper part of a bundle 2 of printing sheets to thereby float up printing sheets 27. A top printing sheet 27 thus floated is absorbed by an absorption foot 8 and conveyed to a printing process. The number of floating printing sheets 27 is detected using photoelectric sensors 21 and 22, and in order to establish the optimum separation state, is adjusted by varying the injection air quantity from the injection nozzle 6 or by moving the paper pressure bar 4 in directions of arrows 93 and 94. Further, by equalizing outputs G1 and G2 from detection areas M1 and M2, it is possible to place the top printing sheet 27 in parallel with the absorption surface 8Q of the absorption foot 8 and realize secure absorption. A fuzzy inference system may be used for adjustment.
