An electrically-fired gun, of the type having a transverse sliding breechblock, has a recoil-operated mechanism for retracting the firing pin electrode tip behind the face of the breechblock during its opening and closing movements. A movable weight is connected by a rocker arm to the firing pin assembly, and is normally latched in place to hold the electrode tip in a retracted position. Manual release of the latch allows a spring to extend the electrode tip into a firing position. Recoil of the gun on firing results in a movement of the weight that retracts the electrode tip, and the parts are automatically re-latched in this position.

There is disclosed an electric firing system adapted for weapons adapted for firing ammunition with a combustible casing or without a propellant charge casing, with an electrically conducting contact pin having an insulated body and an igniter point which is arranged in the bore of a breech block so as to be axially removable from the rest position to a firing position and back again into the rest position, and which is connectable with a voltage source when moved toward and into its firing position. In the disclosed system the contact pin in its rest position is in conducting contact with the mass of the breech block. A repeater lever is arranged with respect to the contact pin in such way that it moves the latter into the operating position against a restoring force, thereby electrically energizing the contact pin, and thereafter releases it to return to its rest position. In the rest position of the contact pin a cover member seals the end of the bore in which the contact pin is located from the bore of the barrel of the weapon.

According to the present invention, a firing probe assembly adapted to deliver an electric firing signal from a firing apparatus to a non-impact fired ammunition cartridge in a firearm comprises a probe shaft, a probe spring, a probe tip, and an actuator bushing. The probe shaft is secured to a frame of the firearm and in communication with the firing apparatus. The probe spring is mounted between the probe shaft and probe tip, thereby urging the probe tip forwardly against the actuator bushing. The actuator bushing is biased rearwardly by an actuator bushing spring and is positioned and configured to be displaced forwardly by momentum of a firing mechanism of the firearm. The actuator bushing is further configured and positioned to bring the probe tip into contact with the cartridge when the firing mechanism drives the actuator bushing in the forward direction.

A detonator mechanism for use with cartridges normally actuatable by firing pin and having a casing which has at least a partial region which includes a floor portion. The housing contains detonating means which can be ignited above a predetermined detonating temperature. A portion of the weapon, which contains at least one of the cartridges, is electrically connected to the conductive region of the casing. A detonating current transfer device made of an electrically conductive material is movably supported with respect to the floor portion, and is arranged to establish contact with the floor portion. At least one rechargeable capacitor serves as a source of detonating current. The source of detonating current, the detonating current transfer device, the detonator, the casing, and the portion of the weapon form a series-connected circuit, and a switch is connected to the circuit. The detonating current is selected so that heat generated thereby in a transition resistance arising during contact between the floor portion and the detonating current transfer device is sufficient to heat the detonating means at least up to the detonating temperature.
