摘要: Techniques for inspecting a weld of a nuclear waste canister include positioning a gamma ray image detector near a nuclear waste canister that encloses nuclear waste. The nuclear waste canister includes a housing that includes a volume in which the waste is enclosed and a top connected to the housing with at least one weld to seal the nuclear waste in the nuclear waste canister. The techniques further include receiving, at the gamma ray image detector, gamma rays from the nuclear waste that travel through one or more voids in the weld; generating an image of the received gamma rays with the gamma ray image detector; and based on the generated image, determining an integrity of the at least one weld.

摘要: A method and apparatus for online condition monitoring of a spent nuclear fuel dry cask storage system. The method comprises monitoring physical parameters of air flowing through inlet vents and outlet vents of a system and observing successive measurements of the parameter for deviations from the baseline to determine if the condition of the system has changed. The parameters may include temperature, pressure, density, mass and volumetric flow rate, nuclear radiation, impurities, humidity, salt content, acidity, chemistry, and fission product gases. The information may then be used directly or to develop an accumulation profile. The data may also be used in modeling or other simulations and to establish condition change signatures. The apparatus includes sensors placed over inlet and outlet vents, sensor interfacing hardware connected to the sensors, and a computer connected to the hardware to acquire, display, and analyze the sensor data and to display the status of the system.

摘要: The present invention relates to a sealing bolt (2) for sealing a container lid (4) to a container body (6). The sealing bolt (2) comprises a seal stud (10) mounted to the container body (6), a seal head (8) connecting the container lid (4),and a pin (14) connecting the seal head (8) to the seal stud (10). The container lid (4) is connected to the container body (6) by connecting the seal head (8) to the seal stud (10). According to an aspect of the present invention, a rupture cable (30) is fed through a transverse passage (24) in the pin (14) and arranged such that any rotational or translational movement of the pin (14) with respect to the seal head (8) and/or the seal stud (10) causes the rupture cable (30) to break. The invention also relates to a sealing system for sealing a container lid (4) to a container body (6), said sealing system comprising a plurality of such sealing bolts (2), a connection cable arranged between the sealing bolts (2) and a fibre optic reader (34) arranged and designed to detect the rupture of the rupture cable (30) and/or the connection cable.
