Abstract: An apparatus for reducing obstruction compromising operation of at least one sensor having a portion disposed through skin of a vehicle, the portion having a surface offset from the skin comprises a member disposed offset from the surface. The member includes a first side having an inner surface and an outer surface that opposes the surface of the portion, and a second side having a second side inner surface and a second side outer surface. The second side outer surface faces exterior of the vehicle. A space is disposed between the second side inner surface and the inner surface. Ports are pneumatically connected with the space, a source of compressed air and a vent.

Abstract: An automated fluid dispensing system, apparatus and method may be configured to automatically clean one or more vision-based surfaces. The system may include a hardware controller, a plurality of sensors, manifold ports, a plurality of pressure supply lines, first, second, and third fluid sources, a compressed air source, first, second, and third valves, a nozzle array, or a combination thereof. The controller may be in communication with a plurality of sensors and be configured to receive and adapt to one or more environmental and vision conditions of the one or more vision-based surfaces. The system may include an automatic response system to provide adaptive operations in response to the information herein such as internal and external parameters and operate under one or multiple pulse-width modulation (PWM) dispensing sequences in response to a determined condition (e.g., contamination state or level) associated with one or more vision-based surfaces.

Abstract: A sensor cleaning device for cleaning a motor vehicle sensor includes a housing with at least one first housing inlet, at least one second housing inlet, and a housing outlet opening for dispensing fluid introduced into the housing via the at least one first housing inlet, and/or the at least one second housing inlet. The device also includes a fluid distribution device that includes first distribution inlets corresponding to first housing inlets; and first distribution outlets corresponding to first distribution inlets. The fluid distribution device further includes second distribution inlets corresponding to second housing inlets; and second distribution outlets corresponding to at least twice the number of second distribution inlets. The fluid distribution device is insertable into the housing. Each first distribution inlet is in fluid communication with one first housing inlet and each second distribution inlet is in fluid communication with one second housing inlet when the fluid distribution device is inserted into the housing.

Abstract: A cleaning device for a vehicle, with which at least one cleaning location is cleaned with pressurized cleaning liquid and/or pressurized ambient air, is proposed, including: a pump-compressor stage for sucking up and conveying the cleaning liquid and/or the ambient air, a fluid path which fluidically connects the pump-compressor stage upstream to a cleaning liquid tank and to an environment of the cleaning device, and a fluid distribution apparatus downstream of the pump-compressor stage, which is fed with the cleaning liquid and/or the ambient air by the pump-compressor stage, the fluid distribution apparatus being fluidically connected to the cleaning location. A vehicle with such a cleaning device, the first and the second use, and a cleaning method for a vehicle are also proposed.

Abstract: A sensor assembly includes a sensor including a cylindrical sensor window defining an axis, a cover fixed relative to the sensor, and a duct mounted to the sensor and extending through the axis. The cover is positioned to expose a circumferential portion of the sensor window. The circumferential portion extends circumferentially relative to the axis from a first end adjacent to the cover to a second end adjacent to the cover. The circumferential portion includes a midpoint circumferentially between the first end and the second end. The duct includes an inlet and an outlet. The outlet extends circumferentially from the first end of the circumferential portion to the second end of the circumferential portion. The duct includes a deflector positioned to direct airflow from the inlet to the outlet at the first end and second end of the circumferential portion before the airflow reaches the midpoint of the circumferential portion.

Abstract: A precipitation shield device, and/or methods of manufacturing and/or using the shield device are provided. The shield device of embodiments includes functionality to prevent accumulation of precipitation over an imaging sensor. In embodiments, the shield device includes a base that enables the shield device to be mounted onto an imaging sensor. A shield body may be defined by two end walls and two lateral walls disposed around a central opening of the shield body. During operation, the central opening is aligned with a window of the imaging sensor. In embodiments, the end walls may have a surface configured to control an airflow flowing over the shield device to create a vortex over the central opening of the shield device. In embodiments, the vortex created over the central opening may deflect precipitation away from the central opening and may prevent the precipitation from accumulating over the window of the imaging sensor.
