A lading storage device is provided for more effectively utilizing the interior of the storage device. The storage device comprises a pair of at least generally opposed walls and a retractable lading support on each of the walls. The retractable lading supports are in opposed relation to each other and each comprise a retractable support member. Typically, each retractable support member is movable between an extended position, wherein the retractable support member extends into an interior of the lading storage device, and a retracted position, wherein the retractable support member is generally upright. Preferably, at least one of the walls includes a recess in a portion of the wall, wherein the retractable lading support is disposed within the recess when the retractable lading support is in its retracted position. A method of using the lading storage device is also provided.

Orange juice is provided which includes as a component juice extracted from a very early season round orange cultivar which is not a Hamlin cultivar. The juice extracted from such very early season cultivar has sensory attributes which are superior to those of Hamlin fresh juice. The very early season juice has a Brix-to-acid ratio and a color intensity in excess of those provided by Hamlin cultivars which are harvested at the same time as the very early season cultivar. Preferred very early season cultivars are within the Seleta family or are Westin cultivars or are Ruby Nucellar cultivars.

In a further embodiment, a method for direct steam pasteurization and flash cooling of citrus juice is provided. The method removes certain undesired flavor components and retains certain desired flavor components and products having enhanced sensory characteristics result.

A transfer assembly and method for transferring a flexible sheet of material which is subject to wrinkling, folding and/or creasing. The assembly and method includes a vacuum manifold having a cavity which is connected to an evacuation source for drawing a vacuum on the cavity, and an opening on the manifold of a given size and shape and communicating with the cavity. A sheet of porous material for supporting the flexible sheet of material for transfer thereon covers the opening and has a plurality of fine pores extending therethrough. The pores are profusely and uniformly distributed entirely over an area of the sheet of porous material which area is at least substantially of the same size and shape as the flexible sheet of material which is to be transferred thereon, so that substantially the entire area of the flexible sheet of material which is to be transferred is exposed to the pores. The pores are subjected to the vacuum in the manifold cavity in the substantial absence of impairment of communication of the vacuum to the pores to uniformly pickup and hold the flexible sheet of material for transfer without folding, wrinkling or creasing of the flexible sheet of material.

The present invention is directed to a new matter of composition in the form of chemical compounds and to a method for enhancing plant growth and the properties exhibited by plants treated with the compounds in accordance with this method. In particular, application of the compounds results in an increase in sugar content, essential oils and proteins along with an increase in total plant biomass. Fruits harvested from treated plants exhibit an accelerated biochemical and structural maturity. Citrus fruits typically show a reduced peel thickness and exhibit significant improvements in vitamin C, carotenoid, and essential oil contents. The methods of the present invention produce balanced improvements in the structural, biochemical, and sensory quality of Citrus fruits.
