摘要: A separation apparatus and method are employed using a separation channel for rotation about an axis. Such channel includes radially spaced apart inner and outer side wall portions and an end wall portion. An inlet conveys fluid into the channel. A barrier is located in the channel intermediate of the inner and outer side wall portions. A first flow path communicates between upstream and downstream sides of the barrier. A collection region may be located downstream of the barrier for communication with the first flow path. An outer side wall section of the channel may be positioned radially outward of an upstream section thereof. The barrier may join the outer side wall portion along a substantial portion of an axial length of the channel. First and second exit flow paths may allow communication with the channel either upstream or downstream of the barrier or both.

摘要: An apparatus comprises an inlet to convey a first fluid comprising first and second components having different density into a rotating chamber such that an interface forms between at least portions of such components at a first location. At least one outlet removes at least one of the first and second components. A controller is adapted to introduce the first fluid and is operable to move the interface from the first location to a second location and to move the interface from the second location in a direction toward the first location and to return the interface to the second location. The controller is operable to determine a flow rate of the first or second component based, at least in part, on the time interval between when the interface moves from and returns to the second location. At least one sensing assembly is adapted to sense the location of the interface.

摘要: A separation method comprises introducing a first fluid comprising first and second components having different density into a centrifugal field and allowing an interface to form between at least portions of such components at a first location. The method also comprises moving the interface from the first location to a second location and further comprises introducing the first fluid and removing one of the first and second components at known controlled flow rates so as to move the interface from the second location in a direction toward the first location and to return the interface to the second location. The flow rate of the first or second component may be determined based, at least in part, on the time interval between the interface moving from and returning to the second location. The flow rate may also be based on the weight of the one component removed during the time interval.

摘要: Methods and apparatus for concentrating and recovering pathogens from a fluid other than blood are disclosed. The method includes concentrating the pathogens contained in the fluid by continuously feeding the fluid through one or more flexible chamber(s) and subjecting the chamber(s) to centrifugal forces. The concentrated pathogens may be re-suspended by shaking the chamber(s).

摘要: Systems and methods rotate a chamber, in which whole blood is centrifugally separated into packed red blood cells, a plasma constituent, and an interface between the packed red blood cells and the plasma constituent. The interface carries platelets and mononuclear cells. The systems and methods include an interface control unit. The interface control unit is operative in a first state to enable removal of platelet-poor plasma in a first container for use as a diluting liquid. In a second state, the interface control unit retains mononuclear cells in the chamber, while removing platelet-rich plasma from the chamber, bypassing the platelet-poor collection container, thereby maintaining its platelet-poor character. In a third state, the interface control unit enables the removal of mononuclear cells from the chamber in a path that leads to a second container, where the mononuclear cells are collected. The systems and methods direct platelet-poor plasma from the first container to the second container to dilute the removed mononuclear cells in the second container.
