    摘要: Salts of citric acid are separated from a fermentation broth by a two-step process utilizing an adsorbent comprising a water-insoluble, macroreticular gel, weakly basic, anionic exchange resin possessing tertiary amine functional groups or pyridine functional groups, said anionic exchange resin comprising a crosslinked acrylic or styrene resin matrix and a desorbent comprising water or dilute sulfuric acid. The pH of the feed, a fermentation broth, containing citric acid, is adjusted and maintained below the first ionization constant (pKa.sub.1) of citric acid to maintain selectivity in the first step wherein citric acid is adsorbed onto the adsorbent. Then, citric acid is converted to a salt by a reaction with an aqueous alkaline liquid solution and is eluted immediately at the void volume in the alkaline solution.

    摘要: Polar gases such as hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide and ammonia may be separated from nonpolar gases such as methane, nitrogen, hydrogen or carbon dioxide by passing a mixture of polar and nonpolar gases over the face of a multicomponent membrane at separation conditions. The multicomponent membrane which is used to effect the separation will comprise a mixture of a glycol plasticizer having a molecular weight of from about 200 to about 600 and an organic polymer cast on a porous support. The use of such membranes as exemplified by polyethylene glycol and silicon rubber composited on polysulfone will permit greater selectivity accompanied by a high flux rate in the separation process.

    摘要: A process for separating a normal C.sub.6 olefin hydrocarbon from a mixture of the same with a C.sub.6 olefin branched chain and/or cyclic hydrocarbon. The process comprises contacting the mixture at separation conditions with a molecular sieve comprising a crystalline silica. The normal C.sub.6 olefin hydrocarbon is selectively retained and will be recovered from the molecular sieve by displacement with a displacement material comprising pentene-1 or butene-1. The process preferably employs a simulated moving bed.

    摘要: Sucrose which is found in thick juice such as obtained from sugar beet or sugar cane may be selectively extracted therefrom by passing an aqueous solution of the thick juice over a solid adsorbent comprising a stabilized type Y zeolite such as Union Carbide Corporation LZ-Y20 adsorbent, preferably bound with a water permeable organic polymer. The sucrose will be selectively adsorbed thereon and separated from other thick juice ingredients such as raffinose, KCl and betaine. The sucrose is then removed from the adsorbent by treatment with a desorbent material comprising an alcohol. The desorbent is flushed from the adsorbent with water prior to the subsequent contact of the adsorbent with the feed stream.

    摘要: This invention relates to an improved adsorbent comprising a crystalline aluminosilicate, method of manufacture of the adsorbent and improved process for separating a component from a feed mixture comprising an aqueous solution of a mixture of different components, such as a mixture of saccharides. In the process the mixture is contacted with the adsorbent, which selectively adsorbs a component from the feed mixture. The adsorbed component is then recovered by contacting the adsorbent with a desorbent material such as water to effect the desorption of the adsorbed component from the adsorbent. There is an undesirable tendency for the silicon constituent of the crystalline aluminosilicate to dissolve in the aqueous system. The improvement to the adsorbent and process comprises the incorporation of a binder material in the adsorbent comprising a cellulose ether which substantially reduces the undesirable dissolution. The adsorbent is manufactured by mixing together powder of the crystalline aluminosilicate, powders of the binder, and a liquid organic solvent, extruding the mixture into an extrudate and drying the extrudate.

    摘要: An improved adsorbent comprising a crystalline aluminosilicate, method of manufacture of the adsorbent and improved process for separating a component from a feed mixture comprising an aqueous solution of a mixture of different components, such as a mixture of saccharides.
