摘要: A continuously variable transmission is disclosed for use in rotationally or linearly powered machines and vehicles. The single axle transmission provides a simple manual shifting method for the user. An additional embodiment is disclosed which shifts automatically dependent upon the rotational speed of the wheel. Further, the practical commercialization of traction roller transmissions requires improvements in the reliability, ease of shifting, function and simplicity of the transmission. The disclosed transmission may be used in vehicles such as automobiles, motorcycles, and bicycles. The transmission may, for example, be driven by a power transfer mechanism such as a sprocket, gear, pulley or lever, optionally driving a one way clutch attached at one end of the main shaft.

摘要: A release mechanism is provided for a structural member, such as a cylindal object recovery device, wherein the structural member has top and bottom sides. The release mechanism includes a block which is attachable to the structural member so as to extend thereabove. A piston is mounted in the block and is moveable vertically between up and down positions. At least one rod is connected to the piston and extends vertically downwardly beyond the bottom side of the structural member so as to be capable of moving the piston to the upward position when forcibly engaged by the object. A U-shaped holder is fitted over the block with each leg of the holder having a recess. A pair of pistons is laterally mounted in the U-shaped block in an opposing relationship, and each piston is moveable between inward and outward positions. Each lateral piston is engageable with the holder within the holder recess in the outward position so as to retain the U-shaped holder to the block, and each lateral piston clears the respective holder recess in the inward position so as to release the U-shaped holder from the block. A rod is connected to each lateral piston and extends inwardly within the block for engagement and disengagement with the vertical piston as the vertical piston moves from its down position to its up position. A spring arrangement is provided for biasing each lateral piston toward the inward position. Each rod maintains the respective lateral piston in its outward holder engaging position when the lateral piston rod is in engagement with the vertical piston. Further, each rod allows the respective lateral piston to be spring biased to its inward disengaged position with respect to the holder when the lateral piston rod is disengaged from the vertical piston. With this arrangement forcible engagement of the bottom of the vertical rod with the cylindrical object will cause the vertical piston to move upwardly and allow the lateral pistons to move inwardly to release the U-shaped holder from the block and the structural member.

摘要: A method for enhancing drug delivery to the brain in neurological disorders using lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) and sphingosine I phosphate (S1P) is herein described. Specifically, the permeability properties of LPA and S1P allow for a highly controlled and transient disruption of blood-brain barrier permeability. Thus these phospholipids can be used for delivering a wide variety of therapeutic, prophylactic or diagnostic agents to the brain.

摘要: A coupling loop or antenna is provided that can be used with a system that determines the resonant frequency of a sensor by adjusting the phase and frequency of an energizing signal until the frequency of the energizing signal matches the resonant frequency of the sensor. A cable attached to the coupling loop provides maximum isolation between the energizing signal and the sensor signal by maximizing the distance between the coaxial cables that carry the signals and maintaining the relative positions of the coaxial cables throughout the cable assembly.

摘要: Drivetrains and frames for vehicles, equipment, machines, etc. Some embodiments of the drivetrains and frames are particularly suited for human powered machines, such as bicycles and exercise equipment. In some embodiments, a drivetrain includes a reciprocating crank coupled to a crank pivot. A lever couples to the crank via a lever pivot positioned on the crank. A lever stop cooperates with a lever guide surface to guide a motion of the lever as the lever pivots about the lever pivot. The lever and/or the crank are operably coupled to a drive pulley, idler pulley, and/or compound pulley. In some embodiments, a drive cable operably couples the lever and/or the crank to the drive pulley, idler pulley, and/or the compound pulley. In one embodiment, one or more pulleys couple to the lever's distal ends. In some embodiments, the drivetrain includes a wheel hub adapted to receive torque from the crank via a drive pulley.

摘要: A fluid energy converter, such as windmill or a wind turbine, includes a rotor having a front rotatable hub and a back rotatable hub. In some embodiments, a plurality of blades extend from the front hub to the back hub. A suitable blade includes a front section, a tip, and a back section. In one embodiment, the chord of the tip cross section is at an angle relative to the tangent of the rotor radius. The tip chord can be perpendicular to the direction of movement of the fluid. In some cases, the profile of a blade front section, from its root to the tip, forms a concave curve. In one case, the profile of the blade tip, from a junction root to the tip, forms a convex curve. A front section, an apex, and a back section of a blade form a generally parabolic shape.
