摘要： A holder includes a holder body formed of flexible, resilient sheet material having tabs at its opposite edges. The holder body is formed of a non-skid, high-friction material such as rubber. In use, the holder body is wrapped about the article to be carried, such as a fluid-containing bottle, and carrier, such as a bicycle frame, forming an enclosure therefor. The tabs are secured to one another by Velcro.RTM.-type fasteners. By stretching the holder body about the article and the carrier, the article and carrier are releasably firmly secured to one another without slippage relative to one another or to the holder body.

摘要： A method for implanting cells is disclosed which employs a chamber having a wall forming porous boundary between the host and implanted cells. According to the method, a given number of cells (N) is placed within the porous boundary of a given area (A) such that the quantity A/N is less than about 200 .mu.m.sup.2 /cell. The porous boundary has a pore size, an ultimate strength, and a metabolic transit value that assures the survival of the cells during the critical ischemic period and afterward.

摘要： Methods for enhancing vascular support of cells housed within an implanted apparatus are disclosed. The methods comprise placing a population of therapeutic substance-producing cells into the cell receiving chamber of an immunoisolation apparatus, implanting the apparatus into a patient, and administering an immunomodulatory agent to the patient. The immunomodulatory agent increases the number of close vascular structures in the vicinity of the implanted device, which increases the long term survival of the cell population housed therein.

摘要： Method and apparatus for inductively heating and quench hardening axially spaced cams on a steel camshaft having a longitudinally extending rotational axis concentric with a plurality of axially spaced bearings, which method and apparatus utilizes an induction heating coil having an inner surface surrounding the rotational axis of the camshaft with an insulating gap and integral quench openings for directing quenching liquid inwardly from the heating coil for the workpiece, and a high frequency power supply for selectively energizing the heating coil with a power density within the heating coil of about 20KW/in.sup.2 and an auxiliary cooling assembly fixed with respect to the heating coil and including an arrangement for spraying a cooling liquid toward the camshaft. In accordance with the method and apparatus, a camshaft is indexed axially through the opening of the coil and cooling assembly to a first position with a cam within the coil, at which position the camshaft is indexed to have the lobe of the cam facing the gap in the induction heating coil and a hardening cycle is then employed including induction heating of the surface of the camshaft while the cam is stationary and then quench hardening by directing a quenching fluid through the induction heating coil toward the previously heated cam surface. After this heating cycle, the camshaft is then moved until the next cam is within the heating coil and the previously hardened cam is in the cooling assembly. Thereafter, another hardening cycle occurs. This process is repeated until all cams have been hardened.

摘要： A lightweight frame for stretching or blocking fabric material comprising elongated metal side frame elements detachably coupled together at their adjacent ends by a coacting pair of corner elements which are selectively expandably movable and contractibly movable relative to one another, so as to increase or decrease the frame size. Rotatable actuators coacting with the corner elements provide for the selective expansion and contraction of the corner elements relative to one another, to thereby cause said expansion and contraction of the frame. By providing a series of different lengths of side frame elements, substantially different frame sizes can be expeditiously provided. The paired corner elements and the coacting side frame elements have means thereon for rapidly detachably coupling the frame and corner elements together, as well as for rapidly securing fabric material to and removing fabric material from the frame proper. The various parts for forming various frame sizes can be expeditiously packaged in kit form. The frame is particularly adapted for stretching painters' canvas and artistic needlework, and the component parts are preferably made of anti-corrosion metallic material (e.g. aluminum).
