Abstract:
A flow-through muffler includes a plurality of heat conducting walls, baffles, or partitions that together define a plurality of passages arranged to form acoustic waveguides, attenuators, and/or cancellation chambers, the walls, baffles, or partitions increasing a surface area exposed to the exhaust gases to facilitate extraction of heat while attenuating or canceling the resulting sound pressure waves. The muffler may have a cooling arrangement mounted thereon, and thermoelectric generator elements or other heat-powered device, such as a reformer, connected across the heat differential between the cooling arrangement and an exterior surface of the muffler housing that is in thermal contact with the heat conducting walls, bafflers, or partitions. In addition, the muffler may be made tuneable by providing a device for varying a length of one of the passages relative to another passage, and by including a sound cancellation chamber at an intersection of the passages. In addition, the internal surfaces of the muffler may be coated with a catalyst to provide a combination muffler and catalytic converter.
Abstract:
Multi-directional currents are generated in a medium by cyclically reversing the direction of a conventional current applied to at least one of at least two electrodes so that an electromotive force (EMF) pulse travels from side of the electrode to the other, changing the direction of current in the medium. The multi-directional currents may be used to accelerate electrolytic processes such as generation of hydrogen by water electrolysis, to sterilize water for drinking, to supply charging current to a battery or capacitor, including a capacitive thrust module, in a way that extends the life and/or improves the performance of the battery or capacitor, to increase the range of an electromagnetic projectile launcher, and to increase the light output of a cold cathode light tube, to name just a few of the potential applications for the multi-directional currents.

Abstract:
An electrical contact coupling (3) is provided for automatic center- or central buffer couplings for rail vehicles, more particularly for claw couplings with protective arm, rotatable claw and fall bar of the “AAR” or “Janney” type or with two rigid claws and claw bar of the “Willison” type. The coupling has a contact carrier (8) secured to the coupling head and guided so as to be displaceable longitudinally in the longitudinal direction of the center buffer coupling. An economic and flat-construction solution, indicated for a center- or central buffer coupling of the aforementioned type, for the design and arrangement of an electrical contact coupling (3) and an air line coupling (12) is achieved wherein the longitudinally displaceable contact carrier (8) is arranged underneath and on a supporting unit (1) which for its part is elastically supported on and secured to the coupling head underneath the said coupling head. At least one actuating cylinder (6) is arranged within the supporting unit (1) for the longitudinal displacement of the contact carrier (8). An air coupling (12) with an orifice (11) is arranged on the supporting unit (1) in the coupling plane.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for intelligent scrolling. In a computer system that has a user interface which allows for the movement of items from a first open window to a second open window or to a second region, such as a desktop, the present invention allows a user to select one or more items in the first window, move the selected item(s) to within a predetermined distance from an edge of the first window for a predetermined period of time and cause the viewable portion of the data and/or document within the first window to scroll in a corresponding direction.
Abstract:
A combination of a wallet and a pocket knife. The wallet has a plurality of sections which overlie each other when the wallet is folded. One of the sections has a pocket which removably and frictionally receives a pocket knife.
Abstract:
A convector tray including a tray body constructed from polymeric/copolymeric material, the tray body including a bottom wall and upstanding peripheral wall collectively defining a condensation chamber, openings for effecting the passage of air through the bottom wall upon the utilization of the convector tray with an associated fan coil unit, a rigid elongated reinforcing/rigidifying member positioned within the condensation tray along the bottom wall for reinforcing/rigidifying the tray body, and a plurality of condensate passages for conducting condensate generally transverse across the bottom wall and across and beneath the reinforcing/rigidifying member whereby condensate upon the bottom wall will be conducted by the condensate passages toward a drain area to prevent rust, blockage, and fungus growth, and with the elimination of attendant overflow and damage.
Abstract:
An RF dielectric heater has a variable power output and stable output frequency. A power controller provides variable phase angle control of three-phase AC power. A delta-wye power transformer is coupled between the power controller and a rectifier circuit. The rectifier circuit converts the stepped up, high voltage AC power from the transformer into a DC power output. An RF oscillator circuit driven by the DC power output is coupled to a tank circuit. A load, comprising RF electrodes, create an RF field to heat material passed through the field. The RF electrodes are coupled to the tank circuit in a manner characterized by the absence of any tuning components.
