    摘要: In one embodiment, in absence of transmitting from an apparatus a reservation request frame, the apparatus receives a reservation response frame on an assigned channel. The reservation response frame indicates a duration of a frame transmission. In response to receiving the reservation response frame, the apparatus transmits a frame on the assigned channel during the frame transmission. In another embodiment, in response to receiving a reservation request frame on a first channel at an apparatus, the apparatus transmits a reservation response frame on the first channel and on at least one second channel. The reservation request frame indicates a duration of a frame transmission. The reservation response frame indicates the duration of the frame transmission. After transmitting the reservation response frame, this apparatus receives during the frame transmission a first frame on the primary channel and a second frame on the at least one secondary channel.

In an example embodiment of the invention, if there is a change in service offering of the first device that is connected to a wireless second device, the first device automatically generates a reassociation request frame and transmits it to the second device. In addition to the standard processing of the reassociation request frame, the second device considers the received reassociation request frame as a trigger to respond by transmitting a generic advertisement service request to the first device. The first device will then have an opportunity to transmit its updated and up-to-date service description to the second device in a generic advertisement service response frame. The second device buffers the first device's updated service description and makes it available to other wireless devices searching the network for services, to facilitate network selection.

In order to obtain flexible and low power connections between a wireless terminal belonging to a short-range wireless network and an external wireless communication device not belonging to that network, a protection frame is sent either from the wireless communication terminal or from the external wireless communication device. The protection frame includes duration information used for virtual carrier-sensing in the short-range wireless network.     摘要: An apparatus and method for wireless devices have a scalable bandwidth allocation for operating in different bands at different data rates and provide interference prevention between co-existing modes of operation. MAC frame logic selectively defines first characteristics of a first operational mode corresponding to a first wireless link type and second characteristics of a second operational mode corresponding to a second wireless link type. A transceiver coupled to the MAC frame logic communicates, in response to the MAC frame specification, a first protocol data unit for the first operational mode having the first characteristics for the first wireless link type and a second protocol data unit for the second operational mode having the second characteristics for the second wireless link type. Interference detecting logic detects interference conditions in the first wireless link type and allocates suitable areas for operation of the second wireless link. The same principle used in scaling WLAN to WPAN operation, can also be applied at the lower bit rate of WRAN, in which case a larger range is achieved using a narrower bandwidth and lower a clock rate.
