摘要: A common objective lens typically used in reading data from different optical data storage media that are responsive to laser beams of different wavelengths, such as CD and DVD is provided. The lens has a refracting surface with inner and outer refracting surface regions. Diffraction gratings are provided in both the inner and outer refracting surface regions with each having a differential optical path function. The inner diffraction grating and at least a part of the outer diffraction grating emit an order of diffracted beams which have different polarities to cancel out any spherical aberrations caused by a change in temperature.

摘要: In a vehicle door mirror device, a bracket is divided into a frame and a case member. Thus, the frame and the like for a vehicle right side and for a vehicle left side can both hold a mirror at a vehicle rear side thereof. A mounting hole and a supporting hole of a case member are provided to be symmetrical with respect to a vertical plane which passes through a widthwise direction center of the case member. Thus, even if a common case member is used both for a vehicle right side and for a vehicle left side by left and right sides of the case member being reversed, the mounting hole of the case member can be mounted to the frame and the like for the vehicle right side and the vehicle left side.

摘要: A sheet processing apparatus includes a stacking tray for accommodating sheets discharged thereto. A sheet discharging mechanism discharges the sheets to the stacking tray. A moving mechanism reciprocates moves substantially vertically the stacking tray between a first position, which is below the sheet discharging mechanism, and a second position between said first position and the sheet discharging mechanism. A controller controls the moving mechanism to move the stacking tray to the second position when the sheet discharged by said discharging means is discharged through a predetermined distance onto a stacking tray located at the first position.

摘要: A polarization separating element 1 is produced by forming a polydiacetylene derivative film 11 on the surface 101 of a glass substrate 10 as an optically isotropic substrate, and selectively irradiating the polydiacetylene derivative film 11 with ultraviolet rays to form a grating 12 which has periodic grooves and two hues and exhibits partially polarizing properties. In a light pickup device containing the polarization separating element 1 having partially polarizing properties, part of the light reflected on an optical disk reaches a receptor without fail even if the optical disk has birefringence, whereby the recorded information can be reproduced with no problem.

摘要: An electromagnetic wave matching element makes it possible to reduce the cost of a transmission system to a great degree. An electromagnetic wave matching element is adapted to allow electromagnetic wave beams incident from an entrance to be reflected by using plural mirrors to couple these reflected electromagnetic wave beams to an external transmission system through an exit. Mirrors are used that have a shape adapted to receive the plural electromagnetic waves in a beam form and to output electromagnetic wave beams having a predetermined distribution in which the number of the output electromagnetic waves is different from the number of the received electromagnetic waves.

摘要: An n-dimensional torus network-based parallel computer, n being an integer greater than 1, is folded n times with the results of folding embedded in an n-dimensional layer for connection with an interleave connecting unit. Four-terminal switches or switch units are placed at the folding positions. The switching units are changed so that any two of the four terminals are linked together. This permits the torus network to be split into subtorus networks or subtori. The subtori can be integrated into the original torus network whereby the reconfiguration of the torus network is realized. The switches are changed over by the switching unit in either a static mode or a dynamic mode. In the static mode, only the system side is allowed to change over the switches. In the dynamic mode, users are allowed to transmit a message to cause the switching unit to change over the switches. By connecting a communications path between the switches, the communication distance between distant processor elements can be reduced, permitting high-speed communication. This permits high-speed global calculations and broadcast processing.

摘要: The invention relates to a coating composition for preparing a back coating film of a mirror. The mirror has a glass substrate, a silver mirror film formed on a back surface of the glass substrate, a metallic protective film formed on the silver mirror film, and the back coating film formed on the metallic protective film. The coating composition comprises: a binder consisting of 40 to 85 parts by weight of the total of an epoxy resin and a hardener of the epoxy resin, and 15 to 60 parts by weight of at least one selected from the group consisting of a ketone formaldehyde resin and its derivatives; and a pigment blend containing 7-55 wt % of a corrosion-inhibitive pigment based on the weight of the pigment blend. The weight ratio of the pigment blend to the binder is in the range from 1.2 to 4.0. The back coating film is superior in chemical resistance and corrosion resistance even if a lead-free corrosion-inhibitive pigment is used.
