Abstract: A vehicular camera includes a lens holder and a plurality of stacked, overlapping, board-to-board interconnected printed circuit boards that includes at least a first printed circuit board and a second printed circuit board. Circuitry disposed at the first printed circuit board is electrically connected with circuitry disposed at the second printed circuit board via board-to-board electrical connection. The circuitry disposed at the first printed circuit board includes an imaging sensor at a first side of the first printed circuit board. Pliable material is disposed between and contacts a second side of the first printed circuit board a third side of the second printed circuit board. The pliable material allows for movement between the first printed circuit board and the second printed circuit board when the plurality of printed circuit boards is being accommodated within a cavity of a rear housing during assembly of the vehicular camera.

Abstract: A vehicular camera assembly includes a printed circuit board (PCB) and a camera housing having a first housing portion with a lens barrel that accommodates a lens. An imager at the PCB faces the lens. At least one of (i) the PCB is attached at the first housing portion via a thermally conductive adhesive and (ii) the lens barrel is attached at the first housing portion via the thermally conductive adhesive. The PCB is thermally conductively connected to the first housing portion and, while the vehicular camera assembly is electrically operated to capture image data, heat generated within the camera housing is drawn away from the PCB at least in part through the thermally conductive adhesive and the front housing portion.

Abstract: A vehicular camera module includes a front housing member, an imaging array sensor, a lens, a rear housing member, and a circuit board. The rear housing member is mated with the front housing member to form a camera housing. With the circuit board accommodated within the camera housing formed by the mated front and rear housing members, the imaging sensor is closer to a first side of the circuit board than to a second side of the circuit board. The rear housing member includes an electrical plug connector having a plurality of individual electrically-conductive pins that are configured to plug into respective individual pin-receiving sockets of an electrical socket connector disposed at the second side of the circuit board. Individual electrically-conductive pins of the plurality of individual electrically-conductive pins plug into and make electrical-conductive contact with corresponding individual pin-receiving sockets of the plurality of individual pin-receiving sockets.

Abstract: A vehicular camera includes an imager printed circuit board and a lens having a plurality of optical elements. The lens is held in optical alignment with an imager at the imager printed circuit board via a dual cure one-part, filled adhesive that in its uncured state has an epoxy resin. The adhesive is both UV-curable and thermal-curable. A flexible electrical ribbon cable electrically connects circuitry of the imager printed circuit board with additional circuitry of the vehicular camera. Image data captured by the imager is provided to the additional circuitry of the vehicular camera via the flexible electrical ribbon cable. The additional circuitry includes at least a processor for processing image data captured by the imager and provided to the additional circuitry via the flexible electrical ribbon cable. The vehicular camera, when installed and used in a vehicle, captures image data for use by a vision system of the vehicle.

Abstract: A camera sub-assembly for a vehicular camera includes a lens barrel having a cylinder accommodating a plurality of lens optics, and an annular flange extending radially outward from the cylinder. The cylinder is received in a receiving structure of a lens holder so that an annular attaching surface of the lens barrel is juxtaposed with an annular attaching surface of the receiving structure with a cured adhesive disposed between and contacting both of the annular attaching surfaces. The cured adhesive includes an adhesive material. With the lens optics aligned with respect to an imaging array of a printed circuit board attached at the lens holder, the adhesive material is cured to a partially-cured state via exposure of the adhesive material to ultraviolet light. With the joined lens barrel and lens holder construction at a further curing station, the adhesive material is further cured from the partially-cured state to a more-cured state.

Abstract: A vehicular camera includes a lens holder, a plurality of printed circuit boards and a housing portion. The individual printed circuit boards are stacked and overlap one another. Circuitry disposed at a first printed circuit board is electrically connected with circuitry disposed at a second printed circuit board via board-to-board electrical connection. The first side of the first printed circuit board is adhesively bonded to the lens holder via cured adhesive. Thermally conductive material is disposed between and is in thermally-conductive contact with the first printed circuit board and the second printed circuit board. A first electrical connector is disposed at the second printed circuit board and electrically connects with a second electrical connector of an electrical connector portion of the housing portion as the housing portion is being joined with the lens holder to encase the plurality of printed circuit boards during assembly of the vehicular camera.

Abstract: A vehicular camera includes a metallic front housing member having a circuit board attachment portion, a lens barrel extending outward from the circuit board attachment portion and accommodating at least one lens, and a circuit board having an imager disposed at a first side and a circuit board connector disposed at a second side. With the circuit board attached at the circuit board attachment portion, the at least one lens is aligned with the imager and the lens barrel is retained relative to the metallic front housing member via cured UV curable adhesive. A metallic rear housing member is attached to the metallic front housing member and the circuit board is accommodated in a cavity formed by the attached metallic front and metallic rear housing members. An electrical connector is electrically connected to the circuit board connector and is configured for electrically connecting to an electrical cable of a vehicle.

Abstract: A vehicular camera includes a housing having a front housing portion and a rear housing portion mated together to form a cavity within the housing. A circuit board is attached at the front housing portion and has at least one front electrical connector in electrical connection with an imager. The rear housing portion has at least one rear electrical connector. With the rear housing portion mated with the front housing portion, the rear electrical connector electrically connects with the front electrical connector. The rear housing portion has a connector portion that is configured to electrically connect the rear electrical connector to a vehicle wire harness. The front electrical connector and the rear electrical connector cooperate to allow for misalignment of the electrical connectors in a direction parallel to the rear side of the circuit board when the rear housing portion is mated with the front housing portion.

Abstract: A vehicular camera includes a lens barrel, a lens holder and an imager PCB. The lens barrel accommodates a lens and has a threaded inner end. The lens holder has a threaded passageway for threadedly receiving the threaded inner end of the lens barrel. The lens barrel is threadedly attached to the lens holder with a biasing element applying a biasing force at the lens barrel to urge the lens barrel in a direction outward away from the lens holder. The imager PCB is attached to the lens holder with an imager of the imager PCB facing the lens, and the imager PCB is adjusted relative to the lens holder and lens barrel construction to optically align the lens at the imager. After the imager PCB is secured relative to the lens holder, the lens barrel is rotated to adjust focus of the lens at the imager.
