A system is provided for performing location update in a wireless mobile communication system that uses an Internet protocol (IP) address and is classified as at least one paging group. A serving base station (BS) sends a message including an identifier of a paging group where the serving BS is located, determines whether there is a change in IP subnet of a mobile station (MS) upon receipt of a location update request from the MS, and upon recognizing a change in IP subnet of the MS, stores information on a new IP subnet and notifies the change in the IP subnet to the MS. Upon detecting a need for location update, the MS sends a request for location update to a serving BS, and receives a location update success notification and an allocated temporary IP address from the serving BS.

Disclosed is a method in a base station for providing a network access service to terminals. Where one of the terminals is selected as a source terminal and at least one of the other terminals is used as a relay node for relaying communication between the base station and the source terminal. Parameters for relay communication are initialized. A relay communication request message including that the parameters is transmitted. In response to the message, a terminal independently sets and performs the relay communication between the base station and the source terminal. Uplink signals are received from the source and relay terminals. The uplink signals received from the source and relay terminals are combined and decoded. A transmit diversity gain is obtained in uplink transmission of a terminal with a single antenna because relay nodes retransmit the source terminal's signal.

A system and a method for proportionally fairscheduling is provided for efficiently exchanging information between a base station and a mobile station in a wireless communication system. The system includes a base station performing proportionally fair (PF) scheduling for data transmission by receiving channel quality information (CQI) fedback-transmitted from plural mobile stations connected to the base station. The base station determines a number of first mobile stations feeding back CQI required by the base station, calculates an actual number of second mobile stations, which have fed back CQI using the CQI received from the plural mobile stations, controls a first scheduling metric value by comparing the number of the first mobile stations with the number of the second mobile stations, and transmits the controlled first scheduling metric value to the plural mobile stations, the first scheduling metric value corresponding to information used for determining if the plural mobile stations feedback-transmit the CQI, and the plural mobile stations determine if the mobile stations feedback-transmit the CQI by comparing the first scheduling metric value received from the base station with second scheduling metric values of the plural mobile stations.

A proportional fair scheduling apparatus for a multi-transmission channel system, a method thereof and a recording medium for recording program of the same. When each user reports an available transmission rate of a current slot according to transmission channels in the multiple transmission channel system, the scheduling apparatus calculates an average transmission rate of previous slots, and calculates scheduling priority values for all allocation schemes of allocating each transmission channel to users according to transmission channels based on information about the transmission rates. The scheduling apparatus determines an allocation scheme having the maximum priority value from among the calculated priority values, and allocates the transmission channels to the users according to the result of the determination. Therefore, the proportional fair scheduling scheme is applied to the multiple transmission channel system, and the users can transmit signals in an optimum channel environment.

The signal detection method and apparatus includes selecting a symbol corresponding to a lowest branch metric from among symbols, the number of which corresponds to a modulation scheme, determining a candidate symbol by extending a process of selecting a symbol corresponding to a lowest branch metric from among the selected symbols, to a number which is less by one than the number of the transmit antennas, setting an accumulated branch metric of the candidate symbol as a threshold, removing a symbol having an accumulated branch metric higher than the threshold, and selecting, as a last received symbol, a symbol corresponding to a path having the lowest accumulated branch metric among paths selected without being removed until a last stage.
