A method of modulating angiogenesis in a vertebrate subject, the method comprising administering to the vertebrate subject an ECRTP/DEP-1 activity-modulating amount of a composition, whereby an ECRTP/DEP-1 within the vertebrate subject is contacted by the composition; and modulating angiogenesis through the contacting of the ECRTP/DEP-1 with the composition. Optionally, the composition includes a monoclonal antibody which preferentially binds ECRTP/DEP-1. Methods for screening for modulators of ECRTP/DEP-1 are also disclosed.

A process for producing sodium acrylate polymers by free-radical polymerization of sodium acrylate with or without other monomers in an aqueous medium, which comprises using sodium acrylate in the form of an aqueous solution or dispersion obtainable by dissolving or dispersing solid sodium acrylate in an aqueous medium. The polymers thus obtainable have an improved color number and a lower residual monomer content than conventional comparable polymers.

An allyl type crosslinking agent for use in production of a super water-absorbent polymer comprising a polymerizable compound having a carbon-carbon double bond or a salt thereof. The crosslinking agent comprises a linear hydroxypolyallyl ether having at least one hydroxyl group and at least two allyl groups obtained by allyletherification of hydroxyl groups in a linear polyol compound selected from the group consisting of erythritol, xylitol and sorbitol. This allyl type crosslinking agent is highly soluble in an aqueous solvent, and can give an excellent super water-absorbent polymer, which cannot be obtained in the prior arts, having high levels of both of water absorptivity under atmospheric pressure and water absorptivity under pressurized conditions.
