Abstract:
A method for obtaining diallyldialkylammonium halide includes the reaction between allyl halide and a dialkylamine. At least one of the two is at least partially renewable and non-fossil. The diallyldialkylammonium halide can be used as a bio-sourced diallyldialkylammonium halide monomer to produce a bio-sourced polymer incorporating at least the monomer. The polymer can be used in various technical fields.
Abstract:
Pharmaceutical compositions for and methods of treating an animal, including a human, and methods of preparing such compositions. The pharmaceutical compositions contain crosslinked amine polymers and may be used, for example, to treat diseases or other metabolic conditions in which removal of protons and/or chloride ions from the gastrointestinal tract would provide physiological benefits such as normalizing serum bicarbonate concentrations and the blood pH in an animal, including a human.
Abstract:
Methods of protecting a substrate from light-induced degradation are described. The methods comprise providing a substrate and disposing onto the substrate a plurality of layers deposited by layer-by-layer self-assembly. At least a portion of the layers comprise an organic light absorbing compound, an organic light stabilizing compound, or a combination thereof dispersed within a polyelectrolyte. Also described are articles comprising a substrate and a plurality of layers deposited by layer-by-layer self-assembly wherein at least a portion of the layers comprise an organic light absorbing compound, an organic light stabilizing compound, or a combination thereof dispersed within a polyelectrolyte. Random copolymers suitable for use in the method and articles are also described.
Abstract:
A zwitterionic monomer and corresponding cyclopolymerized polyzwitterion (±) (PZ) (i.e. poly(Z-alt-SO2). Phosophonate ester hydroloysis in PZ gave a pH-responsive polyzwitterionic acid (±) (PZA). The PZA under pH-induced transformation was converted into polyzwitterion/anion (±−) (PZAN) and polyzwitterion/dianion (±=) (PZDAN).

Abstract:
Novel ampholytic ter-polymers comprising at least an ethylenically unsaturated cationic monomer, a monomer containing a carboxylic acid or sulfonic acid group and diallyamine or derivative are claimed. Further, the ter-polymers may be used in personal care or personal washing compositions optionally in the presence of conditioning agents such as silicone, fatty amines, fatty amine oxides and fatty quaternaries and/or various benefit agents. The ter-polymer compositions are especially useful in the treatment of keratin-containing substrates. Keratin substrates include, but are not limited to, animal and human hair, skin and nails.
Abstract:
The polyzwitterionic acid antiscalant is an antiscalant for use in desalination plants and the like for inhibiting CaSO4 and SO42− scale precipitation. The polyzwitterionic acid (PZA) antiscalant has the following structural formula: In order to make the PZA antiscalant, N-carboethoxymethyl-3-(N,N-diallylamino)propanesulfonate, a zwitterionic monomer, is cyclopolymerized in aqueous solution using tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) to make an intermediate polyzwitterion (PZ). Acidic hydrolysis of the ester groups of the PZ is performed to produce the PZA antiscalant. Evaluation of the antiscalant properties of the PZA antiscalant using concentrated brines revealed that the PZA antiscalant, at a concentration of 10 ppm, is very effective in inhibiting the formation of calcium sulfate scale, particularly in reverse osmosis plants.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a drilling fluid additive comprising a specific cation-modified PVA-based resin and a drilling fluid containing the same. The drilling fluid additive can reduce hydration swelling of inorganic clay mineral such as bentonite, and provide a drilling fluid such as drilling mud capable of forming a thin and tough mud wall on the stratum during drilling operation.
Abstract:
A water-soluble copolymer comprising, by mass relative to the total mass of the copolymer: 5 to 45% of at least one cationic monomer whose cationicity comes exclusively from one or more quaternary ammonium functional groups; 50 to 95% of at least one monomer of formula (I); in which: R1 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl radical; Z is a divalent group —C(═O)—O—, or —C(═O)—NH—; n is an integer between 2 and 200; R2 is a hydrogen atom or a carbon-containing radical which is saturated or unsaturated, optionally aromatic, linear, branched or cyclic, comprising 1 to 30 carbon atoms, and from 0 to 4 heteroatoms chosen from the group comprising O, N and S; the copolymer having a cationic charge density of between 0.3 and 2.6 meq/g.
