The method and system assigns identification information to each received packet, and then re-sequences the received packets by putting the identification information in order. Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate adaptively communicating data to wireless devices. An access point can precode a dedicated reference signal (DRS) for transmitting to a wireless device, and the wireless device can receive the precoded DRS. The wireless device can determine the precoder by estimating a channel of the DRS and can provide channel condition feedback to the access point. The access point can create data signals including a single or a burst of data transmissions according to the feedback and can precode the data signals using the same precoder. The wireless device can additionally decode the data signals using the precoder. Moreover, the access point can cycle through precoders according to a patterned, random, pseudo-random, and/or similar sequence.

A Method and System for Utilization of an Outer Decoder in a Broadcast Services Communication System is described. An outer decoder and an inner decoder encode a block of information to be transmitted, to improve protection by adding redundancy. The redundancy permits decoding of the information from less than a complete encoded block of information. Consequently, the receiving station determines when sufficient amount of information for successful decoding has been received, and utilizes the time remaining before the next block of information arrives to perform other activities, e.g., hard handoff on a broadcast channel, inter-frequency hard handoff, and other activities. Alternatively, the receiving station can cease reception, thus decrease power consumption. Furthermore, part of the information block may be utilized for transmission of signaling information.

In a wireless network (100) with HSDPA-enabled user equipment devices (130), the base transceiver station (120) transmits to each HSDPA-enabled UE information regarding allocation of HSDPA codes and associated modulation techniques for other HSDPA-enabled UEs. Using this additional control information, each UE configures decision feedback filter of its equalizer to reduce inter-user interference. The additional control information may be transmitted in a packet (300) that includes a CRC portion (310) with the packet's CRC masked by a common ID, which is known to the HSDPA-enabled UEs. To reduce the number of bits needed to transmit the additional control information, the HSDPA codes used with a particular modulation technique are allocated consecutively. For each modulation technique, only the beginning code and the total number of codes need be known to the UEs. The number of codes used with each modulation technique may be allowed to change once in several TTIs.

A communication system providing both voice and data services allows for a plurality of subscriber station to share a data sent in a unit of a forward traffic channel. To provide information required by the subscriber stations to determine that a unit of the forward traffic channel is shared, and to correctly decode the data, different control channel structures are described. Additionally, the control channel structures provides for more efficient signaling of code channel assignment.

Method and apparatus for code assignments in a spread-spectrum wireless communication system incorporating a Large Area Synchronized-Code Division Multiple Access (LAS-CDMA) protocol. The method determines a set of LS codes based on an interference free window size. An arborescence structure provides the correspondence between the interference free window size and the set of LS codes. Subsets of the LS codes are formed having null cross-correlation within the interference free window. The subsets are assigned to neighboring cells in the system to reduce interference between neighbors. In one embodiment, a controller determines the subsets and makes the assignments to cells within the system.
