    Abstract: An optical communication network includes a downstream optical transceiver. The downstream optical transceiver includes at least one coherent optical transmitter configured to transmit a downstream coherent dual-band optical signal having a left-side band portion, a right-side band portion, and a central optical carrier disposed within a guard band between the left-side band portion and the right-side band portion. The network further includes an optical transport medium configured to carry the downstream coherent dual-band optical signal from the downstream optical transceiver. The network further includes at least one modem device operably coupled to the optical transport medium and configured to receive the downstream coherent dual-band optical signal from the optical transport medium. The at least one modem device includes a downstream coherent optical receiver, and a first slave laser injection locked to a frequency of the central optical carrier.

    Abstract: A novel method that dynamically changes the contention window of access points based on system load to improve performance in a dense Wi-Fi deployment is disclosed. A key feature is that no MAC protocol changes, nor client side modifications are needed to deploy the solution. Setting an optimal contention window can lead to throughput and latency improvements up to 155%, and 50%, respectively. Furthermore, an online learning method that efficiently finds the optimal contention window with minimal training data, and yields an average improvement in throughput of 53-55% during congested periods for a real traffic-volume workload replay in a Wi-Fi test-bed is demonstrated.

    Abstract: A wireless communication system includes an external provider subsystem and an electronic network subsystem in operable communication with the external provider subsystem. The electronic network subsystem is configured to provide a first microservice and a second microservice different from the first microservice. The wireless communication system further includes an in-home subsystem (i) separate from the external provider subsystem, (ii) in operable communication with the electronic network subsystem, and (iii) including a first micronet and a second micronet different from the first micronet. The first micronet is configured to operably interact with the first microservice, and the second micronet is configured to operably interact with the second microservice. The wireless communication system further includes at least one electronic device configured to operably connect with one of the first micronet and the second micronet.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for network communications to reduce optical beat interference (OBI) in upstream communications are described. For example, a fiber node may provide a seed source to injection lock upstream laser diodes. Therefore, upstream communications from each injection locked laser diode may primarily include the wavelength associated with each seed source. The seed sources may be unique to each end device and configured to minimize OBI. That is, the upstream laser diodes may be generic, but the collected seed source may enable upstream communications at varying wavelengths. The end device may provide upstream communications by externally modulating a signal generated by the injection locked laser diode.

    Abstract: A method for transmitting a digital frame by an optical network unit in a digital communications network includes steps of arranging received data into a series of symbols, installing a primary cyclic prefix immediately preceding the series of symbols in time, and inserting individual ones of a plurality of secondary cyclic prefixes between each adjacent pair of symbols in the series of symbols. A length of each secondary cyclic prefix corresponds to a first duration shorter than an amount of time needed to turn on a laser of the optical network unit. The method further includes a step of providing to the optical network unit the digital frame. The digital frame includes the primary cyclic prefix, the plurality of secondary cyclic prefixes, and the series of symbols. The method further includes a step of modulating the provided digital frame by a laser of the optical network unit.

    Abstract: A method is provided for automating management of automatic renewal of a public key infrastructure (PM) certificate issued by a certificate authority (CA) for a subscriber. The method includes steps of causing the subscriber to (i) transmit a first alert to a management entity for initiating renewal of the PKI certificate, and (ii) transmit a certificate signing request (CSR) to a registration authority (RA) for issuance of a renewal certificate. The method further includes steps of (iii) transmitting, from the RA to the CA, the CSR signed by the RA, (iv) receiving, at the RA from the CA, an issued renewal certificate signed by the CA, (v) sending, from the RA to the subscriber, the issued renewal certificate signed by the CA, and (vi) causing the subscriber to transmit a second alert to a management entity indicating renewal of the PM certificate.

A network implementing a universal data link includes a first communication device configured to convert transmission entities into data symbols, a second communication device configured to convert the data symbols into transmission entities, at least a first communication medium and a second communication medium communicatively coupled between the first communication device and the second communication device, and a first physical-layer translator configured to translate data symbols without converting the data symbols into transmission entities.
