    Abstract: The provided systems and methods are designed to account for the requests of multiple patients demanding a form of medical intervention from a medical facility (MF) in their vicinity. Unlike the majority of existing approaches, the provided systems and methods differentiate between patient requests by prioritizing the requests with higher urgency over others that can tolerate more delay. Moreover, the provided systems and methods enjoy lower design complexity since the instantaneous queue length (number of patients) in each medical facility is not necessarily needed in at least some aspects. Instead, in such aspects, only average queue length is involved in taking the dispatch actions for patient requests to medical facilities. The intervention can vary from a routine consultation/meeting with a healthcare service provider to urgent hospital admission.

    Abstract: Excessive water production from oil reservoirs is a main challenge facing the oil and gas industry nowadays. Polymeric gelants have been widely applied to seal the water production zones leading to a more feasible production operation. This disclosure introduces a new inorganic crosslinker that can potentially replace the conventional chromium acetate as crosslinkers for polyacrylamide in low-temperature reservoirs. The developed formulation has the advantage of being more environment-friendly compared to the known-to-be toxic chromium acetate. The formulation has been tested through the whole pH range examining the rheological behavior of the mature gels in the temperature range between 25 to 100° C. While chromium acetate was proven to be sensitive to the presence of sour gases, namely CO2 and H2S, due to the inability to produce a stable gel at the acidic conditions, the proposed crosslinkers are more tolerable towards the high acidity. Unlike the conventional crosslinkers, the gelation rate in the proposed system was found to decrease with the increase in pH. The system has a controllable gelation time at pH conditions between 3.5 and 8.5 and is the most stable in the temperature range between 25 to 100° C.

    Abstract: A CMOS analog sensor interface circuit embedded in a passive RFID platform can provide accurate data conversion from analog signals to their digital representations. This interface can also utilize the RFID platform to achieve wireless data transmission. The disclosed sensor interface circuit includes signal filtering, signal amplification, as well as signal digitization. These circuits are all designed under the constraints of low-power operation on a noisy silicon substrate. By using the disclosed circuit design, fully passive wireless sensing network that can integrate with heterogeneous sensors (resistance, voltage, current types) can be designed. The advantages of low-cost, small feature size, and the ability to interface with analog sensors can enable large-scale deployment of such kind of RFIDs, both for consumer electronics like in-door monitoring and industrial sensing applications like the grid, electric vehicle, motor, and other critical infrastructures.

    Abstract: A shape-memory alloy actuated switch (SMAAS) is provided that enables the stable switching of two separate circuits. The presently disclosed SMAAS includes a substrate, one or more electrical contacts attached to the substrate for connecting to load circuits, and one or more electrically conductive elements for selectively connecting the one or more electrical contacts. The disclosed SMAAS also includes one or more shape-memory alloy actuators attached to the substrate. The one or more shape-memory alloy actuators are configured to move the one or more electrically conductive elements. The shape-memory alloy actuators are self-heated by passing current through the shape-memory alloy material. The disclosed SMAAS may also include electrical contacts to connect an external control current to the shape-memory alloy material. In some examples, the provided SMAAS includes one or more retention mechanisms to prevent movement of the electrically conductive elements after actuation.

    Abstract: The presently disclosed method and system exploits a received signal strength of a jamming signal emitted by a jammer to allow navigation of an object through an area containing the jamming signal. In one embodiment, the method comprises receiving a plurality of navigation data and a jamming signal when entering a jamming zone. The method then comprises repeatedly measuring the strength of the jamming signal while moving within the jamming zone. The method then comprises determining the location of the jammer based on the movement within the jamming zone and the strength of the jamming signal at multiple coordinates. The method further comprises performing movement to destination coordinates within the jamming zone at least partially based on the jammer location and the strength of the jamming signal.

    Abstract: The electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction includes nanosheets of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) deposited on a carbon fiber substrate. The catalyst is formed in stepwise fashion by chemical vapor deposition of nanosheets of MoO3 onto the substrate, then reducing the MoO3 to nanosheets of MoO2 using sublimed sulfur, then by reaction of sulfur vapor with the MoO2 to form nanosheets of MoS2 on the carbon fiber substrate. The catalyst is multifaceted, having a large density of edges providing catalytically active sites for the hydrogen evolution reaction. The activity of the catalyst is enhanced by coating the catalyst with spherical fullerenes (nC60).
