Abstract:
A running tool for lowering a christmas tree to a subsea wellhead. The running tool includes an off center adjustment to compensate for asymmetric weight distribution in the christmas tree. The running tool comprises a main body, latches for coupling the body to the christmas tree, an offset arm connected to the body, and a lift arm (drill pipe adaptor) connected to the lift arm and selectively positioned on the lift arm to offset and compensate for the christmas tree asymmetric weight distribution.
Abstract:
A riser connector uses a box and upset pin connector threadform design having S-shaped load flanks that provide a variable load angles depending on the radial position along the engaged teeth. This design promotes a load path that changes with position along the axial length of the engaged thread, as well as increasing or decreasing external loads on the connector. The connector also varies radial distention of the pin from the box in a manner that is different from one thread to the next. The threadform uses a combination of thread cuts that vary in shape, pitch, and/or thread cone angle to provide load and stab flanks, as well as a load path, that vary from one axial end of the engaged thread to the other.
Abstract:
A wellhead assembly having a data sensor circuit for transmitting sensed data from within a wellbore to the well surface. The circuit includes a signal conduit axially inserted within the wall of a stab unit with connectors at the top and bottom portions of the stab unit. Corresponding connection leads are included within the wellhead assembly to connect with the stab unit connectors. The connectors may comprise a gallery ring wet connect.
Abstract:
A tendon or riser connector has a separate lock-down device that overrides the connector's ability to unlock if the riser or tendon goes slack. The locking device has blocks that are radially actuated through a hole in a receptacle to engage a profile in the connector. When the blocks are pushed in, they prevent the connector from moving downward, and thus prevent any unlocking of the connector. The blocks are secured with pivotable gates that engage and retain the blocks in both positions.
Abstract:
A wellhead assembly includes a tree cap having a production mandrel extending down into a production passage of a Christmas tree to form a seal. The tree has an annulus bore and an annular cavity at the upper end of the tree surrounding the upper ends of the production and annulus bore. A communication gallery leads between the annulus bore and the cavity. The tree cap also includes an annular sealing member that enters the cavity for sealing a communication gallery.
Abstract:
A system for monitoring strain in a wellbore casing includes one or more gages that are affixed to an outer surface of the wellbore casing. Each gage includes one or more apertures. During operation, variations in the shape and spacing of the apertures are monitored and used to determine a level of strain in the wellbore casing.
Abstract:
An outer tubing hanger is secured to an outer string of tubing and landed in a wellhead housing. A Christmas tree is connected to the wellhead housing. While in a first mode, an isolation tube extends between the tree and the outer tubing hanger for conveying well fluid flowing up the outer string of tubing. The isolation tube is removed while in a second mode, and an inner tubing hanger secured to an inner string of tubing lands in the outer tubing hanger production passage. An upper portion of the inner tubing hanger extends into sealing engagement with the tree production passage for flowing well fluid up the inner string of tubing while in the second mode.
Abstract:
A riser is connected to subsea well equipment and extends to a vessel. A tubular conductor is mounted stationarily to and around the riser, the conductor passing through an opening in the vessel. A set of rollers is mounted to the vessel around the opening for engagement with the conductor as the vessel moves relative to the riser. Hydro-pneumatic cylinder units are connected between the riser and the vessel for applying tension to the riser. An external flange is located on a lower portion of the conductor. A shock absorber is positioned around the conductor and mounted to the vessel for movement relative to the conductor. The shock absorber absorbs shock when the cylinder units are in an extreme stroke position.
Abstract:
A riser tensioner for an offshore floating platform has a frame stationarily mounted to the upper portion of the riser. Pistons and cylinders are spaced circumferentially around the riser and connected between the frame and the floating platform. A tubular guide member is mounted to the floating platform for movement in unison in response to waves and currents. The riser extends through the guide member. A guide roller support is mounted to and extends downward from the frame around the guide member. At least one set of guide rollers is mounted to the guide roller support in rolling engagement with the guide member as the guide member moves in unison with the platform.
Abstract:
A system, program product, and method for monitoring and managing a plurality of marine riser assets is provided. The system can include one or more floating vessels each carrying a shipboard computer, a plurality of riser assets to be tracked and monitored, a riser asset identification sensor positioned to identify select riser assets being deployed to establish a riser string, one or more riser joint instrument modules positioned along the length of the riser string to provide riser asset load data, a centralized data warehouse to store riser asset identification and loading data for riser assets deployed at multiple remote vessel locations, and a riser lifecycle management server and riser lifecycle management program product adapted to monitor riser asset conditions, issue automated service alerts based on actual use information, maintain routine and non-routine maintenance records, manipulate and categorize riser assets, and automatically generate an accurate riser system configuration as was actually deployed for any particular drilling/completion operation.
