Abstract:
A sealed bearing arrangement for the ring rollers of a cold rolling mill is provided with a rolling bearing mounted on a journal of a rolling shaft and seated in the bore of a chock, and a pair of housing covers fastened to said chock on respective sides of said rolling bearing. Each of the housing covers has a bore in which a pair of sliding rings and a pair of O-ring seals are arranged. The sliding rings of each pair have mutually abutting end surfaces and respective outer conical circumferential surfaces which are resiliently supported by the respective separate O-ring seals. The O-ring seals in turn are supported by a conical bore surface formed on the corresponding housing cover and by a conical inner surface of a washer seated adjacent the inner ring of the bearing respectively. At least one shim ring is inserted between the side surface of a ring of the rolling bearing and a supporting shoulder surface of one of the housing covers or washers.
Abstract:
A conveyor roller and bearing assembly designed to rotate around a fixed shaft in a conveyor frame is disclosed having a polymeric roller constructed and arranged to minimize the generation of production noise and static electricity, a polymeric spherical bearing capable of freely rotating within a shaft subjected to more than the normal degree of deflectional rotation while generating a minimum of friction and heat, and a spring loaded shaft designed for easy installation in a conveyor frame.
Abstract:
An improved self-contained roller bearing assembly includes coaxially disposed inner and outer bearing race members (or assemblies), at least one circumferential row of cylindrical rollers and at least one circumferential row of tapered rollers disposed radially between the inner and outer bearing members (or assemblies). The inner and outer bearing race members (or assemblies) include generally recessed and generally non-recessed annular cylindrical raceway surfaces, as well as generally recessed and generally non-recessed annular conical raceway surfaces. At least one of the inner and outer bearing race members or assemblies includes at least a pair of separate race member portions that may optionally be spaced axially from one another by one or more axial spacer members. The separate race member portions and the axial spacer members are fully reversible, with the separate race member portions being interchangeable end-to-end with one another, without affecting the predetermined desired bearing clearance and end play for which the race member portions and the axial spacer or spacers were sized and machined.
Abstract:
A pill-coating apparatus for covering granulets such as pill cores with a multilayer coating has a coating drum rotatable about a substantially horizontal axis, the drum being formed with a hub at each axial end thereof supported in two pivot bearings axially spaced apart from one another, wherein at least one of the two pivot bearings is formed as a rotatable linkage, comprising a roller bearing connected to a support rotatably adjustable in any direction.
Abstract:
A circular coolant seal has a base flange arranged in a base plane perpendicular to the seal axis. A flexible resilient sealing flange is integrally joined at one edge to the base flange and terminates at its opposite edge in a sealing lip located in a sealing plane parallel to and spaced axially from the base plane. The sealing lip has a first portion extending from the base flange angularly away from the base plane and inwardly towards the seal axis to an intermediate hinge portion, and a second portion extending from the hinge portion away from the seal axis and angularly towards the sealing plane. The configuration, flexibility and resilience of the sealing flange is such that axial displacement of the sealing lip in relation to the base flange is accompanied by both axial and radial displacement of the hinge portion.
Abstract:
A rider roll structure is provided by a beam with at least a pair of rider rolls mounted thereon with adjacent ends of the rolls being mounted in a bearing assembly wherein shafts extending from each adjacent end of each roll are provided at their axial ends with a land and groove configuration so that the lands formed on one shaft are received in the grooves formed on the other and a resilient member is received within the grooves and is shaped so that it extends between mating land areas so that drive from one roll to the other is through the resilient member and the resilient member can accommodate slight angles between the axes of rotation of the rolls. A sleeve surrounds the shaft and the resilient member is keyed to this sleeve which in turn is mounted in a bearing that is mounted on the rider roll beam.
Abstract:
A self-aligning bearing assembly for engaging, supporting, and permitting the free rotation of, the end of a load bearing shaft, the bearing assembly comprising a sub-base, a supporting sub-assembly, and alignment apparatus, such as an alignment shaft with damping members, operatively engaging and disposed between the sub-base and the supporting sub-assembly. The shaft end is supported by roller means located in the supporting sub-assembly. An upper sub-assembly having upper roller means is preferrably provided to maintain the load bearing shaft in contact with the roller means of the supporting sub-assembly. The upper sub-assembly may be hinged to the supporting sub-assembly to facilitate the ready placement and removal of the shaft from the assembly.
Abstract:
A press roll with adjustable flexion has a roll shell mounted to rotate around a fixed yoke and mounted with self-aligning bearings on a support cap in which the yoke is also supported on its own curved support. The press roll works in conjunction with a mating roll to form a press zone, near which there is a main hydraulic support that is positioned between the yoke and the shell and that transfers support forces from the yoke to the shell. The distance between the bearings of the shell is equal to that of the mating roll. The self-aligning bearing and the curved yoke support are mounted concentrically on a tubular collar of the support cap. There can also be supplemental supports outside the press zone for imposing additional flexion on the roll shell.
Abstract:
A non-contact seal for the ends of a variable crown calender roll shaft subject to variations in shaft alignment. The seal is a labyrinthian type with a suction system adapted to a sump to recycle the oil. The oil level is maintained and contact between the rotating shaft and the labyrinthian seal is avoided, permitting higher temperature and higher speed use of the roll apparatus.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a taper journal bearing for rolls, used in rolling mills. The bearing includes a bushing installed in a roll bearing box, a sleeve closely fitted onto a taper journal of the roll, for supporting a load thereof, an oil film deposited between the bushing and the sleeve, and means for attaching the sleeve to the roll at an area other than that directly subjected to a rolling force. The invention eliminates the increased variation in the reduction force taking place at each rotation of the roll, due to a deformation of the sleeve. The latter is caused by a clearance at a keyway formed in the sleeve, for a key arranged between the sleeve and the taper journal.
