Abstract:
This apparatus includes means for measuring capacitance or resistance and means for simulating a selected capacitance value. The apparatus is connectible into a fuel gaging system. When so connected, a selector switch can be operated to make the normal connections between the fuel gaging capacitors and the indicators, so that the indicators produce their normal responses. Alternatively, the selector switch may be operated so that the apparatus measures the capacitance or resistance of various elements in the gaging system. As another selection, a simulated value of capacitance may be inserted in the gaging system to make the indicators in that system respond to the simulated value in addition to the capacitance of the fuel gaging capacitors of the gaging system.
Abstract:
A method of detecting electrode displacement in an opaque melt of heat softenable material heated by Joule effect through said electrode by monitoring the current, voltage and electrical displacement characteristics of a body of heat softenable material and the electrodes. A relatively rapid change in monitored resistance is an indication of and often characteristic of given changes in the geometric relationships between an electrode the heat softenable material and other electrodes which can accelerate the failure of a system if corrective action is not taken. Alarm indicators, instruction print out, and/or process controls can be actuated in response to a given current voltage or resistance change. Slumping of electrodes and the direction of the slumping is indicated by the nature and magnitude of changes detected on a long term basis at least of the order of days in length. Plural electrodes and electrode pairs are monitored by multiplexing to provide a repetitive cyclic scan of the parameters between pairs. Distortion of current and voltage values is minimized, where selective portions of regular power pulses are gated for control of heating, and complex waveforms result by employing true r.m.s. values of current and voltage developed in true r.m.s. to d.c. converters. An approximation circuit for producing a d.c. voltage which is approximately proportional to the r.m.s. values of current and voltage resulting from phase controlled firing of controlled rectifiers into the electrode melt load.
Abstract:
A verification device for verifying an electrical overvoltage between two electrical conductors includes a conductor-track carrier made of an electrically insulating carrier material, a plurality of conductor tracks applied in spaced-apart relation from one another on the conductor-track carrier, and a measuring device acquiring an electrical resistance of one of the conductor tracks. Each of the two electrical conductors is electrically connected to at least one of the conductor tracks with the proviso that none of the conductor tracks is electrically connected to both of the two electrical conductors. The conductor tracks are configured such that a prespecified overvoltage between the two electrical conductors causes a partial discharge that changes the electrical resistance of the one conductor track between the one conductor track and another one of the conductor tracks that is electrically connected to one of the two electrical conductors.

Abstract:
A capacitive detection and display device and method is used to simultaneously detect and display an image of an object hidden behind an obscuring surface. An electrode applies an electric field to a chamber having a visual display material which is located between the electrode and the obscuring surface. A sensitivity enhancement device is located within the electric field between the chamber and the obscuring surface to increase the sensitivity of the detection and display device and increase its depth of penetration through the obscuring surface. In one embodiment, the sensitivity device comprises an array of sensitivity electrodes formed on a nonconductive substrate. The shape of a hidden object is visually displayed by the visual display material.
