The cleaning member includes a support plate having a planar face portion configured to be fixed to an object in a position adjacent to the image carrier, a plurality of reinforcement features configured to reinforce a strength of the support plate, at least one of the reinforcement features arranged on the planar face portion, and a blade connecting portion arranged on the planar face portion. The cleaning member further includes an elastic blade member connected to the blade connecting portion of the support plate such that the elastic blade extends toward the image carrier when the support plate is fixed to the object.     Abstract: An object of the invention is to provide an image forming apparatus being excellent in cleaning property for an electrophotographic photoreceptor and capable of forming a high-quality, high-resolution image. A surface free energy (γ) of a photoreceptor (2) which is provided in the image forming apparatus (1) and is exposed to a light corresponding to image information for formation of an electrostatic latent image is set to 20 to 35 mN/m. A volume average diameter of a toner particles included in a developer stored in a developing unit (29) to develop an electrostatic latent image and form a toner image is set to 4-7 mum. When γ of the photoreceptor (2) is set to within a small range as the particle size of toner is reduced, even small-particle-size toner hence increased in specific surface area and largely affected by a inter-molecular force is limited in adhesion force to the surface of the photoreceptor (2) to provide a good cleaning property, whereby a cleaning property is enhanced and at the same time a high-quality image can be formed.

    Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member for bearing an electrostatic latent image; a developing device for developing the latent image on the image bearing member with a developer including toner and carrier particles at a developing position, the developing device including a developer carrying member for carrying the developer, a plurality of developing devices containing toner particles which have colors different from each other, and a moving mechanism for carrying the developing devices to move a selected one of the developing devices to the developing position.     Abstract: An electrophotographic image forming apparatus capable of reliably forming an image with density gradation, one which does not have a low-quality appearance. The estimated average halftone granularity of the toner image after developing but before electrostatic transfer was set at 0.25 or less. The average halftone granularity was found by measuring the granularity of a toner image at locations of different average brightness by means of newly proposed formula, and averaging the measured values for which the average brightness is 40 to 80.
