Abstract: The invention provides a method of processing MSW comprising the steps of—providing a stream of unsorted MSW to a microbial fermentation reactor in which the MSW is fermented with agitation at a non-water content of between 10 and 50% by weight and at a temperature of between 35 and 75 degrees C. for a period of between 1 and 72 hours under conditions sufficient to maintain a live lactic acid bacteria concentration of at least 10,000,000,000 CFU/L, and—removing a stream of fermented unsorted MSW from the reactor and subjecting it to a separation step whereby non-degradable solids are removed to provide a slurry of biodegradable components. Further, a slurry of bio-degradable components prepared according to said method is provided.

Abstract: This specification describes a system and process for treating waste, for example municipal solid waste (MSW) or post-recycling municipal solid waste. The system includes a press and a pulper. The press is adapted to provide a wet fraction of the waste suitable for anaerobic digestion and rejects. The pulper is adapted to receive the rejects and produce pulp. The pulper may be, for example, a drum pulper. In the process, waste is separated into a press into an organic fraction and rejects. The organic fraction is treated by way of anaerobic digestion. The rejects are separated, optionally in a drum pulper, to produce a fraction containing pulp. The pulp can be re-used to make paper or other products. In some case, 70% or more or 80% or more of MSW can be diverted from landfill.

Abstract: An automated method for sorting circuit boards for recycling is described. The method includes scanning a layout design for a circuit board and comparing the scanned layout design with a database of circuit board layout designs. Each of the layout designs being associated with a respective precious metal content value. A match between the scanned layout design and one of the circuit board layout designs in the database is identified. The method then assigns a precious metal designation to the scanned circuit board based on the identified match. The precious metal designation corresponds to the precious metal content value associated with the matched circuit board layout from the database. The method also includes sorting the scanned circuit board into a group associated with the assigned precious metal designation.

Abstract: The peeling member is disposed inside the inner tank. The switching mechanism is provided for switching between the state of rotating the peeling member in the interlocking manner with the inner tank and the state of being disconnected the peeling member from the inner tank. With the peeling member disconnected from the inner tank, one of them is rotated, the used paper diaper stored is peeled off from the inner surface of the inner tank, and then, the used paper diaper processed in the processing tank is discharged from the bottom of the processing tank to the take-out unit via the opening and closing unit.

Abstract: A method is provided for recovering pulp fibers having little damage from a used absorbent article which includes a water permeable front sheet, a water impermeable back sheet and an absorbent body that contains pulp fibers and a superabsorbent polymer. At least one opening with a circle equivalent diameter of 5-45 mm, or 10-45 mm cut, is made in the front sheet and/or the back sheet of the used absorbent article, which is then agitated in an organic acid aqueous solution with a pH of less than or equal to 2.5, and the superabsorbent polymer is deactivated and the pulp fibers and superabsorbent polymer are discharged from the used absorbent article through the opening or cut.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method of simultaneously recycling plastics and detoxifying chromite ore processing residue with residual heat from a steel slag. By heating and gasifying plastics with steel slag, followed by catalytically split-decomposing the plastics with catalysts such as chromite ore processing residue, the plastics are thoroughly converted into a energy gas under water vapor gasification. The surface coking of Chromite Ore Processing Residue is avoided. Meanwhile, the energy gas reduces Cr6+ in Chromite Ore Processing Residue into Cr3+, and the energy gas is cooled, and CO2 and Cl in the energy gas are adsorbed by alkaline substances in Chromite Ore Processing Residue. With this method, chromite ore processing residue is detoxified, and steel slag is cooled, furthermore, energy is saved and a energy gas is obtained.

Abstract: Provided is a method for performing anaerobic digestion by utilizing a heavy metal ion enriched biomass waste material, comprising: putting a biochar made from the raw materials such as garden rubbish and agricultural and forestry waste, or a plant for adsorbing heavy metal ions in waste water containing heavy metal ions, and obtaining a heavy metal saturated biochar or a heavy metal super-enriched plant; and then adding in a kitchen waste anaerobic digestion methane generation system at a certain ratio. The heavy metal ions adsorbed in the plant or the biochar are utilized as a basic component of an anaerobic reaction enzyme to promote the growth of methane bacteria, activate the activity of the enzyme, shorten the time of a hydrolysis acidification stage, reduce VFA accumulation, and accelerate the generation of energy products such as methane and the like.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process and an apparatus for sterilising used hygiene products, comprising the use of an autoclave apparatus. Said autoclave apparatus comprises one or a plurality of rotating internal members. In some embodiments, the plurality of rotating members each concentrically position around a common axis of rotation. In some embodiments, the plurality of rotating members comprises holes of predetermined size, such that the autoclaved products can pass from a central rotating section towards radially outwardly positioned ones. This allows for short processing time with high process performance whilst minimising damage of compounds such as pulp fibre and superabsorbent polymers (SAP) while enabling pure plastic, pulp and SAP streams being separated.
