    Abstract: The invention provides methods and apparatus for multiple user detection (MUD) processing that have application, for example, in improving the capacity CDMA and other wireless base stations. One aspect of the invention provides a multiprocessor, multiuser detection system for detecting user transmitted symbols in CDMA short-code spectrum waveforms. A first processing element generates a matrix (hereinafter, “gamma matrix”) that represents a correlation between a short-code associated with one user and those associated with one or more other users. A set of second processing elements generates, e.g., from the gamma matrix, a matrix (hereinafter, “R-matrix”) that represents cross-correlations among user waveforms based on their amplitudes and time lags. A third processing element produces estimates of the user transmitted symbols as a function of the R-matrix.

    Abstract: A receiver for a multi-mode wireless device is provided. The receiver has multiple analog RF front end modules, with each module supporting a different mode of operation. The receiver has a single digital backend module for generating a digital baseband signal. A controller selects one of the available RF modules to use, and the selected RF module provides an analog communication signal to the digital backend. Each available mode has an associated set of factors. When a particular mode is selected, the set of factors associated with the selected mode is provided to the digital backend. The digital backend uses these factors to adjust the processing characteristics of its components, such as its analog to digital converter, filters, and gain controller. In this way, the single digital backend is adaptable to the requirements of each of the available radio modes.

    Abstract: A matched filter requiring no high-speed processor and which consumes less power is disclosed. Partial filters 301–30N obtained by dividing number of matched filter taps by N are provided with a controller 341 for controlling which partial filters are enabled. The controller 341 is supplied with maximum amount of delay of an input signal and with symbol timing. On the basis of the maximum amount of delay, the controller 341 enables only the minimum number of partial filters 301–30n that are capable of executing an amount of computation that is required in one symbol period. The enabled partial filters are used multiple number of times per symbol period and the output, each time, integrated sample by sample. Since the disabled partial filters will not operate, it is possible to reduce power consumption and computation time.

The wireless communication platform includes a first computing element, a second computing element, and a reconfigurable interconnect. A design configuration of the first computing element is heterogeneous with respect to a design configuration of the second computing element. The reconfigurable interconnect has an uncommitted architecture, thereby allowing it to be configured by an outside source to couple portions of the first reconfigurable interconnect with portions of the second reconfigurable interconnect in a variety of combinations.     Abstract: System and method for detecting multiple direct sequence spread spectrum signals using a multi-mode searcher. A preferred embodiment comprises the specification of a hypothesis for a particular communications network. The hypothesis can then be used to generate a pseudo-random number (PN) sequence that is provided to a searcher. The searcher can then make adjustments to the PN sequence to bring the PN sequence to conformity with requirements of the particular communications network. The adjustment to the PN sequence permits the use of a multi-mode searcher to perform searches for signals of various communications networks with minimal hardware dedicated to each communications network.

    Abstract: A Node-B/base station has a path searcher and at least one antenna for receiving signals from users. The path searcher comprises a set of correlators. Each correlator correlates an inputted user code with an inputted antenna output of the at least one antenna. An antenna controller selectively couples any output of the at least one antenna to an input of each correlator of the set of correlators. A code phase controller selects a user code for input into the set of correlators.
