    摘要: A round-trip, spread-spectrum navigation and locating system achieves high capacity and large processing gains in one-to-many and many-to-one configurations using round-trip signaling with frequency division based upon precise responding device carrier frequency offsets. Reduced cross-correlation is achieved by assigning these very small disparate frequency offsets to replies from interrogated devices so that the long-term correlation between disparate reply sequences is reduced almost to that of random noise of equivalent energy. The invention supports simultaneous interrogation of multiple responding devices, which responding devices respond essentially simultaneously at a fixed delay after receiving the query. The originating and/or responding devices may be fixed or mobile, permanently or temporarily deployed, terrestrial, airbourne or space-based with any source of power including batteries and solar without limitation. The signaling may be electromagnetic or acoustic with the potential for under-water use.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for detecting a burst signal. The apparatus includes circuitry that concatenates a predetermined number of samples and transmits the samples to a first programmable memory tap of a predetermined number of programmable memory taps. For each memory tap, a corresponding partial correlation is computed. A normalized sum of all the partial correlations is multiplexed and transmitted to a predetermined number of multipliers. A peak of the burst signal is determined by computing a summation of the complex multiplications of each multiplier, wherein the determined peak corresponds to a start of the burst signal.

    摘要: A device and method for estimating a bias in a frequency estimate of a received signal. Circuitry generates a first signal including a number of sample-blocks, wherein the first signal is shifted in frequency from the received signal by a first frequency shift. Based on the first signal, a second signal and a third signal are generated, by shifting a frequency of each of the samples of the first generated signal by a second frequency shift and a third frequency shift, respectively. For each generated signal, a variance for each sample-block is computed. An average variance of the computed sample-block variances is further calculated and a bias of the received signal is determined as one of the first frequency shift, the second frequency shift, and the third frequency shift, corresponding to the generated signal having the smallest calculated average variance.

    摘要: A GPS receiver acquires carrier frequency and Gold code phase using short segments of a received GPS signal. In one embodiment, a 1-ms segment of the GPS signal is transformed to the frequency domain. This is multiplied by a frequency representation of the Gold code. The resulting product is converted to the time domain, and a peak is detected. The location of the peak corresponds to the code phase. If no peak is located, the carrier frequency is changed. Full- and half-bin steps in carrier frequency are considered. Processing gain is achieved by using longer segments of the input signal, for example 4 or 16 ms and integrating 1-ms segments. Considerations are provided for compensating for the effects of a transition, should it occur in the short segment of the GPS signal being processed. Integrations can be performed using non-coherent and coherent techniques. Adjustments are made for non-integral millisecond segment lengths.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus for code phase processing in a wireless communication device are described herein. A wireless device performs code phase search on a pseudo random code spread signal received over a wireless channel. A correlator correlates the received signal to a plurality of code phases in each of a plurality of frequency hypothesis. A maximum peak and a second peak are determined from the correlation results. Cross correlation processing is performed on the maximum peak and the maximum peak is discarded in favor of the second peak for position processing based on the results of the cross correlation.

Transmissions on the shared access communication channel are encoded using first pseudorandom noise (PN) code and a phase shift at the first chipping rate and an orthogonal spreading code having a chipping rate less than the first chipping rate. The apparatus may receive a feedback channel assignment and may receive an indication of a change in timing on the assigned feedback channel.
